Default Weather stations and log software for dummies please

I have been bracket racing for years off and on when life allows but never worried much about how many rounds I actually won. I am looking at different weather stations and ET prediction software. I am so confused at this point I don't know what else to research to find out what I need to know. I hate wasting money and also don't want something that does me no good. The price range on these things is $10 for a phone app to $2000+ for a trailer mount and pager. I don't use throttle stops or delay boxes, etc. I want to buy what I need but don't want to throw away cash for bells and whistles I'll never need or use. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I know bracket racers are more secretive than tuners.

I have a kestrel.....it's just a weather station, it doesn't predict e/t.....it was the cheapest option.
I'm happy with it

That's where I am leaning maybe and get the ifamily software since I am packing the laptop for HP tuners anyway. I just would like to know the benefits if any, of getting the more expensive version. Do you have the 5500?

Im using the iFamily software. I was using the Kestrel with it but was just too sensitive. I now use the Davis weather station from iFamily as well with pager option. Its been so consistent for weather readings and the software prediction is excellent.

Mine is the kestrel 5100, i think it was around $270.....it's tough to say if it's good or bad since it's the only station I've been around

After much reading and getting over at least a little confusion, I believe I will be going forward with a Performair handheld weather station and ET predictor. Can anyone give me some negatives going this route?

That is the most widely used unit around here. It has 10 data banks .Just remember it is just a tool and it will point you in the right direction you still need to know your car. You also need to start paying attention to the flags for wind direction and take that into account. You are dealing with .001 of a second win/lose and need to use everything to your advantage.

I'm very happy with my Computech Race Air Pro. If you go that route, use the "SAE Correction Factor" method instead of DA. It's usually dead on or off by .001 for me.
