We put the stock mufflers back on the Vette because we needed some torque. Well, it SOUNDS so different! Too Damn Quiet!!!!
So I'm at the start line, the first yellow goes, and I hold at 5000 by ear (I don't use the tach much). Second yellow hits and...
STASTASTASTASTA!!!! OPPSSS!!! That was the 7100 rpm limiter! I launched at 7100 on ET Streets. Well it was a good pass, nothing spectular, but LORDY how the car stunk. I fried the stock Z06 clutch a bit. After cooling, and launching a bit softer, went 11.72 @ 118.
Wifey ran a new best as well at 11.86 @ 117, then I hopped into our tow vehicle (Duramax 4x4) and ran a new best of 14.88. (17.69 stock)
The track was slick, the weather hot, but it was a GOOD day. Damn this chit is fun.

Our "newest PN" Z06 clutch has survived over 250 passes on ET Streets, never launched below 4000, usually 5500. To those who say the GM clutch is junk...

Nice Mcrat.I agree with you on the stock clutch.I have over 130 passes on mine with almost all of them 6200-6500 rpm dumps on a hot ET Street.I can't say the same for the factory hydraulics.I'm replacing my clutch and master this week while we have it apart to fix the tranny.Me and the factory master don't get along very well on the 2-3 powershift.

Are you a believer in backpressure = horsepower?
Congrats on your runs, you would have went faster with higher flowing mufflers though

Faster? Maybe. Quicker? Maybe not.
The 1 7/8" tubes moved the powerband up 250rpm, which was making it dog at 4500 for a bit on the shift. With the stock muffler on, it moved the curve back down.
While backpressure never helps peak HP on a tuned car that I've seen, it can be used to adjust the RPM peak. So for dyno day, open it up. But for track days, use it like any other tuning tool.
