Worthless Mods = NEW BEST!
I made 11 passes during the two days, but didn't mess with the tuning and my 28" Hoosier's weren't ready in time for this weekend. But I did get a chance to try out the modified airbox & ram air (the worthless mods). I'm REALLY happy with the consistency of the car, I didn't make ANY 11 sec passes. My best was as follows (ALL NEW BESTS):
60' 1.47
330' 4.40
1/8 6.88
MPH 99.13 WOW!
1/4 10.828
MPH 125.128 WOW!
The other passes were:
1.48 10.858 123.97
1.47 10.873 124.29
1.49 10.888 121.85 (MPH?)
1.50 10.895 123.95
1.49 10.899 123.68
1.50 10.909 124.06
1.52 10.910 123.50
1.54 10.920 124.19
1.51 10.935 123.59
1.51 10.944 123.59
That's 11 passes in a row faster than Terryble Terry! And not bad considering I race on a 10.90 Summit ET Dial. I'm not complaining either with the positive 1000' DA's.
I'm just a bit concerned about a couple things I figured out after this weekend. My BEST passes the last 4 or 5 weeks have been on the FIRST pass. I think the trans is heating up and slipping. Even when the DA comes down some throughout the day/night, my MPH doesn't improve and the shifts seem to lag just a little. I may need a shift kit in the stock trans and I'll be looking for ways to get the temp down some more. I already have a decent sized trans cooler.
Engine temps are coming up to 200 now and I'm seeing knock retard. The car was missing slightly on the big end but I couldn't confirm from Autotap whether it was rich/lean. The numbers would jump around from run to run??? I would get KR with .940-.960 O2's. And a couple runs dropped down to .890-.910 with no improvement in ET/MPH without touching anything. And I thought I was going to be able to dial it in with the MAFT. I guess I'll have to tune by track times and forget about ATAP.
I've also determined the 26" tires just aren't enough anymore. I can't stall up past 2400 without spinnning (1.52-1.54 passes). I think with the 28's, low-mid 1.4's consistently are in the bag. We'll see.
On a side note, the new Hawker Genesis (Dyna-batt replica) battery worked flawlessly all weekend.
Terry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whats going on>>>>>>>>>
Congrads on the new best though! I was working on my car today too. I'm still waiting for my hood/brakes to come in so I can take a few more passes on this setup, and I have the LS6 heads/new cam on the way too.
I moved up a spot to #2 NA Stock Shortblock. I'm WAY passed my goals for this heads/cam setup.
I'm seriously starting to wonder what this car is capable of with the upcoming 200lbs weight reduction, some LS6 heads that flow more than my little Stage I 275cfm, a REAL cam, 28" slicks, & -DA weather. Holy $hit this coming year will be amazing. And then the T-brake!
Terry & I just had a steeper learning curve. Now look out!
I dropped 12 lbs, still ran MR. Spiderman antenna mod, and ran without my epoxied TB (pulled it out to powdercoat). I think the MODS are working. 99/125MPH at 1000ft. DA.
Think about it, Scott you must have hit it right on with your port work. Your car is running more mph than these other cars with stage 2 heads, and more cam than you, and I'm talking about $2000+ heads that have major flow bench time and big valves and all.
Anyway, congrats and I want your help when I port my heads.

Thanks for the kind remarks. Being young, dumb, and numb to the fact that you can really mess up your heads, I went for it anyway. I like to challenge myself, luckily this is one instance the hard work is paying off. I spent over a year researching heads & porting techniques and talked to some old timers.
Terry:
To refresh your memory, the intake ports are only 212cc (smaller than the LS6 in stock form) vs. your 223cc+. The guide boss was only slightly streamlined, the rocker boss has only been rounded, and as far as I know, the valve job was never blended into the seat. They're stock intake valves without a backcut or anything, and REV 1.57 exaust valves. I'm not kidding when I say they're conservative. I'm amazed myself they work as well as they do.
I don't see any reason a 346 can't see 130MPH NA & a 9 Sec pass with a transbrake. I bet we'll be closing in on that mark next year. If not with a stock shortblock.
Needless to say, I think the smaller intake ports & valves may be the way to go on the stock bore. I'm making a pretty good argument for that.
Dave:
I'm sure I'll make another trip down there in the not so distant future. That wasn't my Dad by the way, just an older friend. You guys squeezed my arm a little, I'll have to sign up over on Norcal-ls1.net. Next time I'll stay a little longer and hopefully make it to a get together.

The heads will be a while. I'm getting ready to build a flow bench, in reality they're pretty simple. ETA probably 2 months on the heads.
I'll be swapping cams probably next month. I want to see some more results with the reverse splits first before I make my final decision. I'm leaning towards a 232/226 XE-R intake/XE high lift exaust 111 lobe sep. But I'm concerned with P/V clearance with .030 off the heads. Maybe if I run a small intake valve margin I can get away with it.
What were the specs on that 232MMS cam anyway?

The 232 cam is like the 229 cam only bigger.

Terry, I don't work for Cartek. You don't have to be sarcastic about the cam specs. What lope sep did Mike use on the 232?
Now borrow someones kit and spray it.

We'll find out in the next month or so. We all know it'll pick up.

Keep it on the low-down buddy. I won't be able to hold off installing the TNT Wet kit for much longer. You can bet your sweet **** it'll happy this fall if not sooner.
