Default G5 cam track times!

Mods include Yank 4500, FLP headers, 3.73 gears, G5 cam (stock heads) on Hoosier drag slicks. Raceweight around 34xx.

I was shifting at 6400-6500 and ended up with a 11.75 @ 113.9 (1.61 60ft) ET. Finally was able to get a decent 60ft. Damn I love these Hoosier drag slicks!

With better temps and shifting at 6800, I hope to knock off a few tenths.

way to go Loco! I'm glad to see that you finally have the setup working well for you. I know you've been tinkering with it for a while. What kind of timing are you seeing? You're slowly zooming in on those shift points. LOL I'm also glad that the Hoosiers are doing well for ya. I told you they'd put the ET Streets to shame!
You still have VERY nice potential with the setup. You should go to the Thunder Shootout in November and race with me in the street stock automatic class! That's going to be some FUN racing. Congrats on the new best, and hopefully we'll see each other at the track again soon. New bests in the spring (nearly summer) really get ya pumped for the fall don't they?
BTW, I just ran the weather conditions listed at www.wunderground.com for Marion, TX at 9:55 last night, and assuming an actual altitude of 400' (I know it's right around there for RCR), the D.A. calculates to 2,272' using this calculator! You ought to FLY this fall!

Loco that was a nice run for a cam only car. I have heads and G5 Cam and my best time is 11.72. My shift points are set at 6250 and I have a 3200 vig. I am going to have my car dyno and tunned for the first time. I am going to have my shift points at 6600 with rev limiter at 6800. I am also hoping the timming can be set at the best setting for track. Car has little weight reduction.

In some nice weather, your ET will come down and your times will very respectable. You have one of the fastest times I have seem posted on this board for this cam. If you don't mine, tell me more about your car such as weight reduction and fine tunning adjustments on the PCM. Good luck with your setup. Kent.

holy poop! 6250 shifts? 3200 stall? with the g5? you're nuts.. but i MUST say that is an AWESOME time (the 11.72) with your car the way it is. it was on nitto's and 3.73's right? damn, thats nice. now, stall up or buy a TP, shift ABOVE 6600 and set your redline where-ever (6800-7000). a good dynotune and street tune would be the best thing.

Thanks Ryan for the comment. I may set shift a little higher than 6600, but I will wait and see. Have ordered lighter K-Member trying to improve on 60' time. Also plan on placing flange on catback for removal at track this fall. The catback is a SLP dual exhaust and it is very heavy--estimate 50 pounds. Cheers.

I removed my passenger and back seats and no front sway bar. I ran with skinnies and Welds all the way around. I didnt get to weigh it but it should be around 34xx. I have it tuned thru Ed Wright. He raised my shift pts to 6500 with a 6800 rev limiter. When I had my shift pts at 6000, I couldnt break 12.0s.

The idle was a pain in the *** to set but after drilling my throttle body and playing with my idle screw, I was finally able to get it perfect. When its cold, it will surge and stall but after warming up its perfect.

I dynoed about a month ago and only got 341 rwhp with 6 deg of knock. I removed my knock and havent had a chance to redyno it.

I plan to have my pcm sent to Ed Wright again and have it shift at 6800 and rev limiter at 7000. With cooler weather and some tuning, 11.5s are possible.

Thanks for the information on your car. That is a great setup for a Cam only car. That car is moving with just a Cam. It seems you have gained 2 to 3 tenths by raising your shift points to 6500. I did not realized you could set the RPM's so high and gain ET. How high can you go without blowing up our engines? How high can you go on the rev limiter? As mentioned earlier, I have ordered a BMR K-Member and Upper/Lower arms to save about 40 pounds on front for a better 60'. I am thinking about removing complete rear seat assembly and both fronts and purchase a light one for track use. Also, I am seriously thinking about putting flange on catback for removal at track. I am going to run a faster time this fall when the weather is better and as late as possible at night for best time with car as cool as possible. For now, I am going to enjoy my car till weather gets cooler. Thank you for the details on your car. It helps me to decide what to do with mine. If you have any questions about my car, just ask. Cheers.

Correction above, I hope I ran a faster time this fall. I don't want to sound like Terry Burger. Kent.

Raising my shift pts helped but it wasnt all due to that. I'm sure getting a better 60ft helped too. There are people running up to 7000 with stock cubes. So I dont think 6.8-7k will be a problem.

You'll be just fine spinning the stock bottom-end up to 6,800. There are a few spinning it to 7k+. I know that Judson spun his stock shortblock to 7,500 quite a few times back in the day, but I don't recommend it. Right around 6,800 RPM is my personal limit for shift points. My limiter is at 7,100.

If you send the PCM back to Ed for the shift points, tell him your timing is still set too low. He got 26.5 degrees out of mine; you'll definitely benefit from the added timing.

Is it safe to set shift at 6700 RPM's with rev limiter at 6900. Any assistance ASAP would be appreicated. Goning to tune car tomorrow in Texas.

LMAO Joel There won't be any big bores for me! If/when I have to rebuild, it's going to be a stock-cid setup w/ forged pistons and rods, ARP rod bolts, etc. I'll just put my HP in a bottle if I want to go quicker than the setup will go. I really do feel my stock shortblock will last quite a while turning up to 6,800 RPM's. I guess we'll find out because I currently don't have any plans to upgrade until I have to.
