Default Likelihood of breaking the rear on ET streets

Ok, All of us know that launching an M6 on ET streets is not the best idea.. Doing it on the bottle is even worse right! But lets put some ifs in here.. If I were to not bring the rpms up to more than 2k slip the clutch just a little and if the window switch was set to say 3200 rpm would the rear be able to handle it? Would that really be any different than leaving in an auto.. I think it would actually be “softer” on the rear than leaving in an auto at 3200 rpm.. Am I wrong? I was thinking about trying it this weekend.. I really want to run an 11.99 and get kicked off the track..

The logic is there. I wish I could say it wouldn't break, but I'd be bullshitting if I did. The first and only time I broke my rear was on an 1.9 60' on nittos launching at 2,000 rpms. I bought a 12 bolt before I had a chance to break again. I busted 7 teeth of the ring gear. You might get a couple of launches out of her, but it ain't gonna hold up for long.

65 passes & 11,000 mi. on my '99 M6 SS w/4.10's & M&H dot's. Kept launches below 3500 rpm. Never broke, but gears were getting sharp & noisy when I put the 3.42's back in to sell car. Best: 12.69, 110.3, 1.83 sixty. It was a Torsen w/out traction control. See how my A4, '02 Torsen w/out traction control does..... Hope this helps you out, or maybe gives you a little confidence! Well mine broke both axles on a launch with Kumho street normal everyday radials. I was launching around 2800. I'd say on the bottle with E/T Streets it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

If you've got a M6 car & want a little more axle strength--try the Moser's. They're supposedly 35% stronger than stock. I know guys who have had good success w/them after continually breaking the stockers. Best of luck. WJ.

I have always been able to manage my 60's in the mid 1.6's and a best of 1.61 coming out at 4500 with ET Streets on the stock rear with 4.10's and a M6 and no girdle. I have made probably about 35 launchs or so and about 10 on a 100 shot coming out at 4000 - 4300 and ET STreets set at 10lbs .I think I was a lucky **** because I have seen alot of rears bust with just a 3000-3500 hit out of the hole.. But know I have a 12 bolt so its all good . Good Luck with your car

Will also depend on your clutch. If your clutch is worn and slipping pretty good it will asorb a lot of the intial shock that occurs on launch and gear changes. Its this 'shock' that destroys the rear.

Now if your using something like a twin disk and stickies then theres no hope

Best 60's I could ever manage were 1.7's. 3.73 10-Bolt, 5000rpm launch. 250 passes - Didn't break.
Sprayed 100hp 12 more launches, nothing broke.

I guess some last longer than others.

M6, McCleoud clutch, 100 shot out of the hole, 5,000+rpm launch, all on a stock 10 bolt. Best 60' ft todate, 1.62 on a shitty track. With the present weather (90+ with humity in the 60's) I doubt I can expect much better. Crossing my fingers each time I launch

With an M6 and any kind of launch, it is almost garunteed to brake your rear end.

I have launched the T/A on Nitto's at 4K on a well prepped track (1.9 60') realizing that it will eventually go boom. My Dad and his old gearhead buddies from the early-mid 60's are amazed at how well these things hold up to abuse though, so it could be worse. Just drive it, and when things break that is an upgrade opportunity. Anyone using the SLP 12 bolts yet?
