Default Transmission regrets?

Anyone here regret running a powerglide in their Strip/street car? Heavy on the strip side of things. I'm looking really hard at the FTI level 4 Glide, and going with PTC for a converter.

Sounds perfect for a glide.
Street driving a glide is the same as street driving a 400. Both have final ratio of 1:1 so when you're cruising it'll be the same.
Their level 3 would hold the power no problem...but the stock case would worry me. Go with the level 4 and get the SFI case.

My first regret building my car was actually buying a 400 instead of a glide. Because I fell into the "it wont be as streetable with a glide"

Just like the gentleman above me said. Its still 1:1 in high gear.

i absolutely love the glide on and off the street.

Pretty sure I'm going with a BTE top sportsman powerglide. Eddie from BTE recommended the 1.80 gear Glide. I'm wanting to run primarily 1/4mi and not have to spin this 5.3 to the moon. I'm thinking about 3.55, I'd really like to use a 3.27 but not sure those wouldn't work out.

I have a 3.40 and 1.80 glide.

Even on lower boost it works well. but depending on your end goal and power. It takes me 7,622 rpm to go 182 mph in the 1/4

Found a nice used glide. It has an aftermarket 1.76 gearset. Should I just go ahead and swap it out with a straight cut 1.80?

I know it can be swapped, but is it nessisary? Will an aftermarket 1.76 be a weak link. It would be easy to change while the transmission is on my workbench.

1.76 ratio is GM's heavy duty planetary that can be used in drag racing. The aftermarket 1.80 straight cut is primarily used for drag racing.

I'd run it!

I have a 1.82 ratio glide that will be getting some upgrades one of these days.

Got my glide yesterday. Looks great inside. Has a 10clutch direct drum, 300m th400 input shaft, Hughes aftermarket 1.76 planetary gear set, Hughes transbrake manual reverse valve body, ATI transbrake solenoid, deep pan, machined for JW ultrabell, scattershield. Those are the major things, I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Anyway got it bought for $650. I know the case is the weak link but just can't do a $3,500+ aftermarket case glide right now. Hopefully this one will hold some power for a while.

Pulled the front pump, and direct drum out of this glide today. Its definitely got a straight cut planetary gearset, looks like an aftermarket planetary carrier as well. It was stated when I purchased it that the planetary was a 1.76. the input shaft is part numbered as a TCI Vasco input for a 1.82 planetary. Just trying to figure out why or how a 1.82 input is being used.

So today I got some time and pulled everything out of this glide. The input shaft is correct for the rest of the parts. The planetary is an ATI carrier with 1.80 straight cut gears. Vasco th400 input, 10clutch steel hub. Hughes transbrake valve body, and some other misc parts.

Sounds like ya got a decent piece. Put it back together/freshen up the clutches and let it rip.

rear gear- I’d start around 3.50
