Launch on the third yellow for better RTs. remember you will never win with RTs like that, try to get down to .520s or 30s. Then you will start winning races.

maybe he likes listening to music? maybe he wants it to be a show car. i dont neccesarily agree with it either but no need to bad mouth him about it. that weight in the back might help traction

Not too bad for your first. Mine's a A4 and when I race I start in 2nd. The car shifts from 1st to 2nd so fast that you might as well not even worry about that. But racin in 3 or D, you're not getting to take full advantage of 2nd gear. Also, the cars launch great in second. Make sure you're heating up the tires too. But I agree, you've got to get those RTs down. I always do a 2 step; left on brake, right foot over gas. Where I race, we have two amber lights. When I see that second amber go out, I'm gone. Perfect RT is .500. You'll get there. Sell some of that stereo equip and put that money under your hood. The show stuff can always come AFTER the good stuff. Remember, put as much air in as possible and get it out as fast as you can.

not to get too far off topic, the man asked how his times were for the first time out.

If it was not his first time out, I would say they SUCK!! sorry dude, but that MPH and 1/8 are pretty slow unless your stock.
If your stock I can see because you have 100+ lbs of amps/speakers ect so its possible.

If you want a show car and show car only, more power to you. I personally enjoy looks as well but my cars ext/int is nice already, maybe get some cosmetic stuff or something and maybe spend that $$ on a custome paint job but after you got looks "without adding an exta persons body weight" you should be set and ready to in internal mods.
Get some headers and a little intake system "lid" or something along with a free flowing exhaust and you should be set.

Your times are OK for your first time. Just spend more money and practice more.

If this was the guy's first time to the track with the car, that isn't so bad.

And as far as the stereo stuff goes, not everyone is insane enough to go as far with their car as other folks do (I'm one of the "other folks" that do whatever for the sake of ET's, but I am in the minority).

Here is a simple recipe for mid 12's on an auto.

headers
converter (most important necessity)
nittos

Or

Headers
Gears (3.42-3.73 for the street)
Nittos

All depending on how wild you want to get. You can always go into the engine and do a little heads/cam

Go get some traction
I have personally seen people drop a full second in the 1/4 with a converter.
