Default M6 Bracket racers?

Hey all you M6 bracket racers. I am thinking about selling my car to get an auto. How do you guys stay consistant with an M6?
I am just wondering if why I keep missing shifts has to do with my tranny needing new syncros, and a better clutch. What is your guys experience with this problem, and were you more satisfied when you fixed your trannies?
Also, are any of you guys really good bracket racers?
I am just trying to find out if I can become a good bracket racer with a manual, or should I really get an auto?
Any comments (Except those just touting which is better) would be a help.
Thanks.

My bet is on the syncro's. mine where wasted at 29K.

What clutch are you running?

Just keep practicing, you'll get it.

I go to grab a gear, and grind it, so I think it is the syncros. Have you had good luck bracket racing a M6? I have 38K miles on the stock clutch. I am wondering if that is the main problem, or is it just the fact that it is a manual?

I would have to say that Iam a pretty good bracket racer with a M6.

I have won 6 races this summer.

It is way cool to be the only stick Hot Rod at the track. It's even more cool to kick the butts of the auto Hot Rods.

I miss a gear ever now and then but to get good a racing a M6, you need seat time.

Good luck to ya and check the board tomorrow. I just had my fenderwells rerolled for a 30x9x15 slick and put in a bad a$$ 5.14 gear.

I am bracket racing the Hot Rod today.

I do pretty well with my M6. The variable is the 60'. I wouldnt even consider bracket racing my car without a shift light! But when I do make it to the final 8 or 4 cars, I am always the only manuel car! If I was serious about only bracket racing, and did not drive my car daily I would race an auto.Man, I just love to row the gears!!!

Yeah, I am thinking of keeping my M6, it is more fun, and is not the piont of drag racing to have fun?
I think I will have my tranny built and put in a Mcloud twin disk clutch with adjustable master cylender.

Anyone know of any places to get better components to build a stronger M6?

I think more tracks need to seperate the Manuals from the auto's for weekly bracket races.

Im a few weeks I am going to start bracket racing my M6 SS every Saturday night. I am pretty consistant right now, and with more time I should be somewhat close to my dial in time. Problem is right now I still have the stock 10 bolt and every time I rac I'm setting a new personal best. I still haven't found out what my cars full potential is.

A company called D&D performance has replacment parts for the T56, and for alot cheaper then the dealership. www.ddperformance.com

I personally wouldn't go with the street twin. I have a cartek clutch and it has performed flawlessly. I've got about 10k on it and over 100 passes at the track. I dont baby my clutch either 6200rpm dumps on the spray, with goodyear eagle slicks.

I think a lot of guys blame the line restriction on their synchros.I have had three t56 cars..96ta,97taws6 and my 99taws6..drove them pretty hard with lots of quartermile type runs..no powershifting though and never had to replace any tranny parts.First if your problem is getting into gears usually third at high rpm wot then do the drill mod first and also you should upgrade to a new slave..2001/2002 and new master either 2001/2002 and if you can afford it a mcleod adjustable master .If your problem is doing the 3 to 2 shift then its just a matter of hand /elbow position.I did notice that my new hurst billet lets me hit third pretty good now.better than with my stock, factory hurst or pro 5 shifter.Still I also need to do the drill mod and plan on that mcleod master..maybe even mcleod clutch.A new clutch is a good thing too in your car..the 98s suck..a zo6 clutch can work good for most people without big mods like nos and stuff.

Last year was just racing for trophies: 6 2nds and 4 1st. Not bad.

This year for the $$$$$ : 1 2nd place; some 2nd's, but was in 2nd 100 points out of 1st and than the tranny gave me ****. Now in about 10th, 1500 points out of 1st

Tranny is fix, back to the track this weekend

Racing is more on reaction time and consistency in your ET.

M6 are such fun

Mike, don't get rid of the M6!!!! The key to winning is consistency with the approach and doing everything the same....using this philosophy on my last three passes with my M6 last week were 12.733, 12.711 & 12.706 with 60' times of 2.163, 2.180 & 2.161 respectively! Can you imagine if I paid attention at the starting lights running times like this , be pretty tuff to beat!

One thought for you, have you drilled out your hydraulic clutch line? I did mine and have zero problems. This could be your problem as others have reported.

AND DON'T GET RID OF THE M6!!!!!!!!!

You mean to tell me there is another way to shift other than power shifting?

Don't get rid of the M6, its MUCH more rewarding when you win while actually having to drive the car. Right Coach?

Last year I won 5 consecutive events at Houston Raceway park in the Sportsman class (9-11 second cars) and I was the ONLY manual tranny in a field of 15-25 cars each time. Thats when I was running with 11.0-11.2 range dial-ins (smaller motor). Most of the cars I was up against were trailer queen automatics, very few street cars in the Sportsman class.

To bracket race an M6, I've found that you just need to launch consistently, and invest in a shift-lite. Even though I could cut 1.6X short times on my slicks, I'd opt to dump at lower rpm and cut 1.75s to make sure I didn't spin. Then it just came to rowing the gears consistently. I typically run within 0.02 of my dial-in, going all-out after the launch. Reaction times are also easier with a clutch in my opinion.

One of the best feelings in the world was when I collected my 4th trophy in a row and the control tower guy had to ask me if I had an automatic. He was shocked that I had a 6-speed, and even announced it at the next event over the intercom. Glad I won that one too!
