M6 Bracket racers?
I am just wondering if why I keep missing shifts has to do with my tranny needing new syncros, and a better clutch. What is your guys experience with this problem, and were you more satisfied when you fixed your trannies?
Also, are any of you guys really good bracket racers?
I am just trying to find out if I can become a good bracket racer with a manual, or should I really get an auto?
Any comments (Except those just touting which is better) would be a help.
Thanks.
What clutch are you running?
Just keep practicing, you'll get it.
I have won 6 races this summer.
It is way cool to be the only stick Hot Rod at the track. It's even more cool to kick the butts of the auto Hot Rods.
I miss a gear ever now and then but to get good a racing a M6, you need seat time.
Good luck to ya and check the board tomorrow. I just had my fenderwells rerolled for a 30x9x15 slick and put in a bad a$$ 5.14 gear.
I am bracket racing the Hot Rod today.

I think I will have my tranny built and put in a Mcloud twin disk clutch with adjustable master cylender.
Anyone know of any places to get better components to build a stronger M6?
Im a few weeks I am going to start bracket racing my M6 SS every Saturday night. I am pretty consistant right now, and with more time I should be somewhat close to my dial in time. Problem is right now I still have the stock 10 bolt and every time I rac I'm setting a new personal best. I still haven't found out what my cars full potential is.

I personally wouldn't go with the street twin. I have a cartek clutch and it has performed flawlessly. I've got about 10k on it and over 100 passes at the track. I dont baby my clutch either 6200rpm dumps on the spray, with goodyear eagle slicks.

This year for the $$$$$ : 1 2nd place; some 2nd's, but was in 2nd 100 points out of 1st and than the tranny gave me ****. Now in about 10th, 1500 points out of 1st

One thought for you, have you drilled out your hydraulic clutch line? I did mine and have zero problems. This could be your problem as others have reported.
AND DON'T GET RID OF THE M6!!!!!!!!!
Last year I won 5 consecutive events at Houston Raceway park in the Sportsman class (9-11 second cars) and I was the ONLY manual tranny in a field of 15-25 cars each time. Thats when I was running with 11.0-11.2 range dial-ins (smaller motor). Most of the cars I was up against were trailer queen automatics, very few street cars in the Sportsman class.
To bracket race an M6, I've found that you just need to launch consistently, and invest in a shift-lite. Even though I could cut 1.6X short times on my slicks, I'd opt to dump at lower rpm and cut 1.75s to make sure I didn't spin. Then it just came to rowing the gears consistently. I typically run within 0.02 of my dial-in, going all-out after the launch. Reaction times are also easier with a clutch in my opinion.
One of the best feelings in the world was when I collected my 4th trophy in a row and the control tower guy had to ask me if I had an automatic. He was shocked that I had a 6-speed, and even announced it at the next event over the intercom. Glad I won that one too!
