Default Convince me to get a spool

I broke one of the spider gears in my 12-bolt (eaton posi) and im really thinking about getting a spool.

I drive my car daily, weather permiting usually put about 5K on it a year. i dont trailer it.

Do you guys know if it would be ok to run on the street? also what brand of spool are you guys running?

No problems with mine so far. I only thing that is hard is turning into a drive way.(the tires make a little noise) My Hot Rod drives just fine on the street and it is killer on the track. I run my stock rubber on the street, I just rotate the tires very weekend to get even wear on them.

I say go for to boys. It sure is alot of fun!

A spool is lighter, virtually indestructable, and you'll never have to worry about spinning only one tire again.

If you try to drive around on tires like BFG Drag Radials, they will literally be ripped apart in chunks from turns, though. No problems with my el cheapo radials for occassional street use though.

ive had a spool in my 9" for about 2 years ago. for 1.5 years of that it was my ONLY car and everyday driver, and yes we get alot of snow here in the winter too. i think it drives just fine. i actually like it better than a posi/limited slip because its very predictable and does what you want it to. i ran Radial TAs on the street and they didnt seem to wear out faster at all from the spool. slicks however will wear down VERY fast on the street with the spool. honestly i never could tell the spool was there except for VERY tight turns (driveway, parking space). and in high speed S turns it worked just fine, no worse than the old limited slip

main reasons i chose the spool in the first place:
-got it for $70 used (posi/lockers are ~$400)
-one less thing to worry about it breaking
-helps ensure the car will launch straight
-i had a friend who had a spool and i saw how his car drove with it

I have one in the Mustang, on ET Streets, you never know its in there. If you are making good power, I'd get it. Tranny and driveline problems are something I hate to have!
