Default Quarter mile times

I have been to the track three seperate times, runing a total of 10 runs down the track. I've consistantly run 14.1's and finally I broke into the 13's with a 13.904. Is this about what my car should be running its a 1998 Trans am, Automatic, mti lid, bfg kdws tires, strut tower brace, flowmaster muffler, and lowered. I have been talking to some other people at the track with camaros and trans am's and they all seem to think i should be doing better. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions.

Thanks please let me know what u think.

Most automatic LS1's that I've seen run mid-low 13's trap around 103-105-107 stock. As for when you last ran now is the worst time of year to try and see what you car can run. I wouldn't say that your car will run 13.9 all the time, but you gotta go out there when the air is good in the winter time. I ran last night and on my 2nd pass ran 12.76 @ 110 a good 3-5 MPH off from it's best in good air and a good 4 tenths off ET wise from back in March this year in better air.

Also, the first 60' it takes you to get going is important in what your ET at the end is. Depends on what 60' your timeslips says....I would have to say seeing your ET I am sure on KDW's it's probably a 2.2 or worse.

Post your the 60' time on your timeslip. You can't be too bummed about times in the summer in Florida!! Air is **** now....wait til December and see how you do.

Your 60ft, while nothing spectacular,,,, ain't exactly terrible either. As racer88 has already said, most stock autos I've seen run at least mid 13s with a good 60ft {under 2.10}, good weather and a track somewhere near sea level. I have a friend with a 99 Camaro SS automatic. He ran low 13s {13.15s-13.30s} at a sea level track in good weather with a LID and drag radials. Ran something like 104-107mph {can't remember for sure}.

Next question is,,,, what is your MPH? Should be in the 104 range at least.

I think you might have some HP power problems. I don't think I've ever seen a LS1 trap lower than around 101-102mph even in 90 degree weather at a track 2000 ft above sea level.

Dunno, get the car checked out. Maye the timming isn't where it should be due to false knock,,,,, or something????

Your car's running around what it should be with a lid/catback in hot and humid weather, maybe a thenth or two slower and 1-2 mph lower.

Not knowing when you've last done a tune up I suggest doing one:

new air filter - a paper FRAM will do just fine or if you wish a K&N or other aftermarket one

new plugs - I suggest going to NGK TR6s, they're a range colder but good for FL weather and the crappier gas we all have to deal with nowadays

new wires - stock ones or the GMPP red ones

new fuel filter

Get the car scanned with Atap or something like it and if the O2 readings are lazy, then also replace the O2s.

Replace the thermostat with a 160 degree one aswell, good for FL temps

Do the free ram air mod if you haven't already.

This next thing will pick the car up .2 tenths and 2 mph. Either get a used Hypertech or go out and get the HP tuner (or borrow someone's). Set the shift points higher, so the car shifts around 6000-6100 rpm. Also set the shift firmness higher aswell. Set the fans to come on at a lower temp because of the 160 degree thermostat. If using a Hypertech DO NOT install their program, just adjust the shifts (+2 to 3 mph) and 50-75% increase in shift firmness and the fans temp.

The tune up will ensure your car's running right and the higher shifts will get you in the 13.7s at 101-102.

Good luck.
