Default 1/8th mile help

I went to the local drag strip to test out my stock z28 M6 tonight and was disapointed since people told me they can run 8.5 easy. This has been my first time drag racing and I was on the stock Eagle GS-C's, my best time was
reaction .609
60ft 2.515
330ft 6.403
1/8 9.508 @ 79.79mph

From what I hear this isnt that great what can I do(other than practice a ton) to get better times?

Also someone offered me some 15" 5 spokes with 27x10 hoosier slicks, both new, for 100$. Should I get these and will they break my rear-end in the long run...or hurt my clutch a bunch? Thanks!

2.51 60ft time... that's your problem

Get that 60ft time down and watch your ET plummet.

Rule of thumb atleast for the 1/4 mile is that whatever you shave off your 60ft you drop the ET 1.5 times that amount.

With practice and a preped track you should be able to cut 2.0x-1.9x w/street tires. You can knock 3/4 of a sec off of that 1/8 time
