Default Legit setup 1st time, what to expect???

Hey Folks,

Going out for the first time with a new setup this Friday and wanted to get some feedback on how hard I should send it. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated from those with a bit more experience than I.

I've run it on street tires before with the following:
  • 400 whp
  • moderately build T-56 (steel shift forks, billet slider keys, carbon blocker rings, stock main shaft)
  • Moser 12-bolt with 4.10 gears
  • LS7 Clutch
  • MWC LCAs/PHB
  • Koni Yellows with stranos springs
  • Struggled with traction through 1st and 2nd gear

New additions:
  • 27x10.50 bias ply Hoosiers
  • Monster twin disc clutch
  • MWC short torque arm
  • MSD 2-step

Keep in mind, i still have the stock driveshaft (which concerns me). what kind of RPM should i launch to prevent fragging the trans or twisting the driveshaft. I've never raced with legit tires before. Any and all advice welcomed, looking forward to reading!

Set the tire psi at 10 lbs & 3000 rpm launch to start with.

Thanks for the tip. I have the 2 step set to 3k already and was planning to start around 12psi and go down from there.

If it bogs off the line, is adding or reducing RPM the correction?

If the car bogs off the line you can increase launch RPM or raise tire pressure to help with that. Work on making 1 adjustment at a time and be patient. Are you running stiff wall hoosiers? Do you have tubes in them?

The tires are the Quicktime Pro DOT. Not sure if they're considered stiff walled or not.. no tubes inside. https://www.jegs.com/p/Hoosier/Hoosi...46905/10002/-1

Adding some tire pressure.. would that allow them to slightly spin off the line, allowing the drivetrain to catch up to vehicle speed? I may try that first prior to adding more RPM to prevent a high rpm dead hook which might do some drivetrain damage.

I would expect a broken driveshaft and some other parts from the sounds of it.

Welp, I got the car out on the 1/8 mile. 1st passed went amazingly. 3100rpm launch, 15psi tires, dropped the clutch, tires chirped and off I went with minimal rpm drop. Get to the booth and the timing system was down......

Next pass; didnt make any adjustments, dead hooked then bogged off the line. 2.0 60 ft, 8.3s at 89mph.

Third pass; didnt make any adjustments, dead hooked then bogged and about the same times.

I kind of expected the bog. Next step is to try around 17psi on the tires. If that doesnt fix, looking to up to around 3500rpm.

Anything else from the professionals out there?

You're not making NEAR enough power to launch on a 2 step at 3500 rpms and expect a good 60ft. Launch at peak torque at minimum so at least 1000 rpms higher. I didn't see your weight but you should be 1.7 or better at 400whp, but not if you're launching and letting it bog.
