Default Help with Viking shock adjustment.

Needing some advice on which way to go with these shocks and other things possibly. I took the car to the track yesterday and had two good passes but it was like the car would hook, then spin for a split second and grab again. It still had a 1.488 and 1.536 60ft on the best passes.

Running mickey thompson at 15 psi and the shock setting was: 16C and 4R on the front, 16C and 0 or 2R on the rear. I experimented on the next pass and upped the Rebound on the rear to 6 and spun worse. I'm probably way off on the settings.

I dont have any video from out of the car but have some from inside. Thanks for any help/advice.

*EDIT* added updated video. 2024 *EDIT*

The rear shocks on my car are set on 6C and 4R with Viking Warrior shocks. You may also try creeping up on the rebound in the front. It's hard to tell without any video of the car from the outside. From the inside video it looks like the front of the car is coming up too fast and then slamming back down then it unloads the rear tires.

What do you have for rear lower control arms and torque arm and how are they set?

LCA are set on the lowest hole which was 3.5* down towards the rear. BMR torque arm and I cant remember the angles on it. I know the pinion is 2*

Probably going to try again this friday after I install the ET Street radial pro. I will be taking someone with me this time so I can get some outside video of the launch.

Thanks!

Those arm and pinion angle are about the same settings as mine other than the shock settings.

My settings for what they are worth...
Viking Crusader rears with 150lb springs
LCA 2.4 degrees (I think this would help you to keep the tire planted a little longer)
Rear R-10 C-16
Front R-11 C-14
Same tires as you and was getting 1.30 60' with 3.50 gear off transbrake 3200 launch

Do NOT stiffen the rebound up if you want it to hook and radial, that is completely the wrong direction. Swapping to a 14 inch spring that has enough poundage to hold the car up at desired ride height without the spring going to coil bind is best spring rate you will want to use. My car has a 110lbs spring in it, could go a littler lighter probably if I wanted.

Put as much anti-squat in the car as you possible can, this will help with separation, usually around 5-7 degrees of lower control angle will suffice for medium/poor track conditions.

You want to set the car up to separate on a drag radial tire (MT Pro 275).

Rear rebound - turn them full loose and add 3-5 clicks ( this helps the drive the tire into the ground and hold rear to body separation )
Rear compression - turn them full tight and remove 1-3 clicks ( this helps keep the tire planted to the ground)

Front rebound - turn them to the middle, this will depend on how fast the front of the car rises, usually somewhere in the middle works on a track
Compression - turn them to near full tight, this will hold the front of car up, if the car comes down too fast it will nose dive and tends to unload the rear tires (spin)

And there you have it... 2 opposite approaches.. maybe it is power level making the difference. Settings like those above didn't work for me on a radial. The mt pro.

your just going to have to test and tune yourself. your going to get 100 different ways from this site because everyone's setup is different. or use the paper you get from viking with the shocks and go from there.

Ok, So I ran four times yesterday and the times in order were....

1st pass
60ft - 1.460
330ft - 4.509
1/8th - 7.05@96.75
2nd pass
60ft - 1.423
330ft - 4.452
1/8th - 6.99@95.95
3rd pass
60ft - 1.488
330ft - 4.524
1/8th - 7.06@95.40
4th pass
60ft - 1.441
330ft - 4.453
1/8th - 6.98@97.11

Now for the changes I was running a new 275/60 M/T pro at 17psi. Shock settings on every pass was 15c/4r on the front and 15c/10r rear.
The best 60ft was flashing off idle and the worst was when I stalled up to 1800rpm. I believe it hit the tire a little harder but hooked and spun for just a split second before grabbing again.

Car went straight and pulled the tires

Video from the other day.

Looks like I have an alignment or bump steer issue? Is it possible my steering wheel turned a little on the launch? I definitely felt that in the steering wheel.

It has the factory rack and pinion. The hydraulic side is not hooked up.

Thank you! I was really happy with it.

Last year on a CAT truck stop scale it weighed 3520 with me in it. I've taken about 40lbs off of it since and I weigh about 225.

I guess my next question is there any room for improvement on the 60ft? 1.30s would be nice lol! I'm definitely a novice when it comes to suspension and how to adjust to the track condition's. Thanks everyone for the help!

Added an updated video to the first post.. For any one interested or looking for info on settings... From zero, Front 18C and 15R, Rear 16C and 9R. The drag radials were set to 20 psi cold.

The car is fairly consistent on a decent track. Usually 60's 1.42 to 1.47.
