Default Paging Trevor D....

hey man...quick Q...

you went from a vig3200 to a TP4400 right? did you do the cam at the same time? I'm just wondering what your gains were by switching converters. Thanks a ton.

Chris,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to ya. I did swap to the PT4400 before the cam, but it was only like a week's difference. I never got any track time w/ just the converter swap and stock cam. I did have some seat time on the street, though. My guess is that you should see .1-.15 from the PT4400 over the Vig 3200. You'll be hitting a solid .05 harder out of the hole, and you'll be charging quite a bit harder on the top-end. With 6,800 RPM shift points, I don't drop below 5,700 on the shifts w/ the 4400! With 6,200 RPM shift points w/ the stock internals, I would drop to 5,000 on the shifts, FWIW. Keep in mind that both of these are with 3.73 gears. The 4400 is more of a handful on the street, but you'll be grinning all night when you plant your foot for the first time.

Trevor

You'll need every bit of those 4.10's to offset the taller tire. The Hoosier 28x9 actually measure in at 27.2" according to Summit's website, so you'll really only be gaining an inch. However, they're going to swell a LOT on the top-end! With the new converter and gearing, I would think that .1 in the 60' is doable. .15 might be a little too hopeful, but you won't know until you try. Those 28's might hurt more than help on stock internals without some MAJOR gearing.

alright, thanks for the advice. I'll have to go through and rethink the combination. Also, i will be about 150lbs lighter than my previous runs, so hopefully that'll help in the 60ft department as well. If i went with a Hoosier quicktime pro vs. the slick, is the swell of the tire still gonna be the same? how about an e.t. street instead of a slick? thanks again.

Chris

how about a Hoosier Quick Time Pro 27x10.5x15 size? little smaller tire, tread width still the 9"??? Good idea instead of full slick?

Trust me when I say that you'll want a full slick. ET Streets were a joke w/ my Vig 3200/3.73 combo, so I'd hate to see it with my PT4400! I'm hooking just fine on the Hoosier 26x9x15 slick.

No prob Trevor. I'm a patient guy. hehe

Thanks for the info. I can only muster some 1.70's on average out of the vi3200, so hopefully i can get a good .1-.15 off my 60ft with the converter swap. i am also doing 4.10's and going with a 28x9 slick. I just like the way the 28's fill up the wheelwell better than the 26's do. But thanks very much for the info.

i love my ET streets and my vig 3600. i can cut 1.5 60s all day long with stock suspention and 3.23's. send the vig back and get it changed to a 3600. mine hooks good with 26/11.5/16. that is a 9' tire BTW.

Trevor: be honest with man.. tell him to go with the vig3600

hahaaa, seriously though I do believe the YTP4400 is the best out there though

you could always upgrade to a vig3600 and have easy 1.6's

heck i get 1.5 on 16inch NITTOS with 3.23's

either one and your 60 and et's will drop so

My experience w/ hooking is on what I call moderate tracks. If you're at a track like HRP, then you'll be able to hook on a set of VW tires. I'm a big fan of bracket racing, so I always go for the setup that will get me the most consistency.

As for upgrading to the Vig 3600, there's no doubt that it would be cheaper! That might be a nice test, actually. Have the converter upgraded to a Vig 3600, then swap to the PT4400 later on. That will give all of us some great comparison info.

Default Re: Paging Trevor D....

well.... sold my vig3200 for $500 to a friend

bought UT4800 from friend for $400, restalled by yank to a TP4400 (on a 2.86 STR is what it ends up being) for $100

total price $500

so, i'm dead even works for me, hehehe. sorry, i would rather not be the "expirementer" on this one. i want to go fast right away
