Default 60e vs 80e 60ft times

All things being equal, which transmission would 60ft better? If you have switched from one to another from personal experience.

408 stroker approximately 500 whp guesstimate with 150 shot nitrous on top of that.

4.11 gear with 28" radial.

01 Camaro 3300 pds race weight

I'm stuck deciding which trans to go with, I want the car to 60ft as good as it can get because I want it to run good NA also.

One of my bestfriends has been 1.37 60ft on motor with 60E tranmission but with a stock bottom end 6.0 motor. His car is not 3300 lbs much heavier and 10.5s in the quarter.

The 4L60e should sixty foot better on that power level, It also has shorter first gear I believe. My wifes t/a at 3250 race weight with 417hp sixty foots 1.44-1.45 with a 4l60e

I think in the long run, 4L80 would be better. It's a stronger trans.

Now in saying that, I run a th350 that was built for my combo. The converter is pretty tight since it was built for some spray that I haven't used yet. (would 60' better if looser NA)

60e will absolutely 60 better, it weighs less, geared better and takes less power to turn which means more power to the wheels .
You need a good 60e though. Your average transmission shop local to you probably won't build one that will hold up. I run a performabuilt level 2.

A 60E may 60 ft alittle better, but I'd sleep better at night with an 80E. Just my .02.

The difference in gearing is minimal. Go for the trans that will last I think.

The 60 will 60 better because of the first gear if you can get it to hook, but then falls off into 2nd. The 80 will be easier to hook and more consistent throughout 1/4. A good 60 will cost more to build right to survive.

Rpm 60e hands down. Personally wouldnt use an 80e. If I got to the point of "needing one" Id go right to a 400.
I have run them into the 5's 1/8th and 8's 1/4 and gotten years out of them. My own experiences. I probably install and use 40 of them per year. I have a level 6+ in my regular cab and I beat the living guts out of it. 4,400lbs, 7,800 rpm, high 10's on motor, and on year 5. makes 770rwhp on spray. never missed a beat. I keep the trans temp 125-165. I plan to send it in this year for a refresh.
I havent back to back 60 tested them at the track, but I install a ton and can tell you how terrible it makes a mild cammed 5.3/6.0 silverado as half of my customers refuse to buy a good trans and go right from a stock 60 to an 80e.

fastest 60 Ive been apart of is a 1.28 on a 275 pro(1.35's on slicks) in a nitrous 6.0 3,300lb f body in a car I tune.

Thanks for everyone's input.

if anyone else has any personal experience with either two of these transmissions in a similar application, I'd like to hear your feedback!

I'm on the fence because i already have an 80e sitting on the garage floor. I was going to shoot for a big horsepower street car, but my plans have changed to a lower horsepower fun streetcar that is still competitive and not a slug off the line. I'd hate to spend the $$$ on a converter and rebuild on this 80e just to slow down from the T56 that's currently in the car.

I know I want to auto swap! I'm very impressed with some of the NA street cars on this forum. Its awesome to see well put together setups run 10s and sometimes faster with the help of a bottle!!!

You have to be honest with yourself are you going to ever make anymore power then you are right now it’s the car? If no look at a performabuilt 60. If you do plan on making more power and spray more nitrous then 80e for sure. Nitrous is very hard in parts and the 60 is going to not be happy with nitrous. I have a 403 stroker and a 4l80e but not track times yet. Still working the bugs out of the car first.

They both have their place and advantages/disadvantages. That being said I ran a stock junkyard 4l80 with a shift kit in my car, 3350 lbs and 1.28 60' times on a bias ply n/a. Would a 60e have 60' harder? maybe, maybe not. Would a stock 4l60 with just a shift kit live in the enviroment my 4l80 did? I dont think so. Companies like rpm are obviously building killer 60's and making them live behind big power, just depends on ones goals and budget.
