Default interest in a lift off Trans Am hood?

found someone that makes a 98 plus Ram Air lift off hood in both CF and FRP ... I am gathering pricing and weights now. Who is interested? We can likely gain better pricing if they have enough to make the run profitable.

Wouldn't do me any good on my Z28, but...

CF = carbon fiber
FRP = ???

Just wondering as I don't recall that abbreviation. May just be stupidity on my part, though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I'm very interested too...one question...can you have painted carbon fiber, or is it gonna have to stay black? Either way, I think I'm in.

I know where you can get CF, it's about $1200 plus shipping.

thanks for the replies guys ... I sent a link of this thread to the manufacturer to generate some interest and hopefully lower pricing ... still waiting to see the pricing and weights.

I don't want to go out with the information yet unless the company posts here as I have seen other companies jump on a supplier, raise the price and then sell to us, thereby locking us out of direct purchase.

For information only (Not trying to step on your toes here)
VFN's pin on fiberglass stock appearance hood is only 12 pounds shipped and costs 250.00

It is super light and looks good. Pain has one on his car but used different fasteners if I remember correctly.
cheers,
Chris

no problem Chris ... I talk with VFN but they don't have a Ram Air mold yet.

Good news!! just got an e-mail, they said the Carbon Fiber is $450 and weights 12 lbs.

Just a note. I don't want anyone to have any misrep about my hood.

I do have a VFN fiberglass lift off hood.

I was sent a hood made to fit their prostock style fiberglass firebird bodies, after a 5 week wait . It was about 30 inches two long , and too wide. John Harrison with specialty metal craft did a great job in fitting the hood to my car, and it took alot of extra work on his part. The finall product is VERY light, and the reason for the dzus fasteners is because John felt the hood could potentially fly apart on the far end of the track. I could have sent it back, but did not want to wait the extra time. So I can't comment on what their correct lift off hood would fit like. Mine is not perfect. And after several months of being on the car it's showin signs of loosing its shape ( for lack of a better description ). Some edges just don't match up as well as they use too. For me its fine... if your looking for an OEM quality kind of replacement...not sure my hood would cut it for you. Mine takes a little more of a beating I think because some of the bracing that was originally their...isn't anymore.

Might ask GeorgeC he might have a VFN hood as well, and could give you another perspective on it.

Larry, thanks, I spoke with VFN and they told me the same thing.

Justin, the e-mail I have states "Around 12lbs for a paintable part or 20lbs for a clear part"

FYI ... I am asking about hoods for Z's and SS's as well.

The dzus fasteners like Larry's do have a better appearance, but I didn't want to go through the extra hassle of installing them. There's a good bit of extra work to be done to properly support them since our fenders are plastic.

My hood seems to be holding up pretty well. It did not take a lot of preparation/work to get it to fit decent and paint. My hood was the first thing I've ever painted myself, and I think it looks pretty good considering that. Overall fit is not OEM quality, but that is to be expected.

Feel free to ask me any other questions concerning my hood...
