Powerglide shakedown run
I'm thinking a 1.92 with 4.88s, ~6400 stall, only 2800 lbs, and the power this C5R is making is going to be a REAL bitch to hook.
Oh well, should be fun!
Someday I have to do something for a stronger tranny, but haven't decided what it will be yet - I want to keep it on the street at least a little and be able to cruise some. Well, my A4 is holding up well on motor, I just have to stay away from the bottle!
My lengthy history with past projects of trying to have a street and strip car has always left me somewhere in between and not great at either

I don't have the time to put the full exhaust and street tires back on every week or even once a month for that matter. I can't go 136 mph on the street legally and don't want to try to do it illegally. It's stupid in my opinion. My car is drag only and proud of it.
BTW a 2 speed would be OK for the street. It was made for street use. That was the original idea.
Yes that's it. A 1.92. I can never remember that.
Power level? 540 SAE at the wheels and lots of torque.
I have a COEN converter. Its an 8". The stall speed was built to engine specs. Never did know the stall but it's probably about 4600. The converter flashes to around 5500 to 5600 when I stab it. Sorry I can't help much there but I really don't know the stall speed.
Race weight was around 3300 to 3350.
Gearing is 4.86 for now. When the weather cools down I'll go with a 4.70 and try that.
Weather will be pretty cool for the summer months this weekend

For the street racer a power glide will hook up better than any transmission.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
When it had the turbo 350 trans it ran the same sixtys at best but was inconsistent.
I tried a 1.85 first and it slowed the sixty down into the mid 1.3X

Oh well, should be fun! We swapped a glide into our 2002SS, @ 3420 pounds...and it ran GREAT. Ran consistant high 1.3's on the spray...thing was, it did that no matter what the track serface was like. Track prep became not so critical. Also.....as far as streetablity. I love it! With the right convertor, its no worse than any other automatic tranny. And the reduced gear on the street, it hooks like crazy on just good concrete (for you midnight 1/4 mile racers

Seriously though, with the right converter gear ratios dont matter much?
That would work just fine if you had enough power to make it work....unfortunately, the 4L60-E won't take that much power!

The more converter you have, the less being undergeared matters.
I'm not anywhere near the level of power you guys are (I'm at 415 rwhp now and 3575 raceweight), but wondered if a glide would be a dependable option for me one day - then I could spray it without worring about the 4L60E going six feet under.
So what would I have to do to consider it? Lower the raceweight a few hundred pounds? What stall and gear would you run with a glide in a car like mine? What rpms would I have to shift and trap at? I currently shift at 6,400ish and trap at about 6,100 in 3rd.
Just wondering if it is even possible in a car like mine. Thanks for the input.

How would you pick them? Can you explain some more. Thanks!

That thing is gonna fly!
