Question about track prep
I see a lot of comments saying track prep affects 60' times. How do you know if the track is good or not? Is it just the fact that your 60, times are high, or is there a way to tell by looking at it ,or what?

Sometimes you can hear the amount of VHT on it as you roll over it. VHT looks a bit shiney or wet almost. Basically the feel of your launch and 60' is going to tell you it's hooking good, or bad or excellent.
Other's who race frequently will definately tell you if the track is good. I go by the way my car launches and feels when it hooks good.

It also has to do with the type of concrete the track has, as well as how much rubber has been laid down over time, whether there is moisture under the rubber and how warm it is. Then you factor VHT into the equation.
Now track prep is only 1/2 the battle for launching a good 60'. You also have suspension parts/configuration, tire pressure, and launching rpm/technique. You can use these to your advantage if your not hooking because of the "track prep". Stiffen your shock, lower your tire pressure etc will help make up for poor track surface.

I check track temp. I also walk the starting line looking for bald spots, or wet spots. I also do the twist test.
The twist test is planting the ball of your foot on the starting line, then try to twist your foot. You can have a sticky track but when you twist your foot you will feel the amount of adhesion the track has.
