ET Streets VS ET Drags

ET Streets VS ET Drags
Exactly what is the difference, besides the fact that the Streets have some sort of tread pattern? Which one would be best with a 12-bolt and 4.11 gears? And why do some guys use ET Streets with a Ford 9"? Seems like the drag tire would be better in this case. Any opinions?

Re: ET Streets VS ET Drags
I have asked this question to a MT salesman at a big drag event this summer and i was told that other than the tread the composite rubber material is identical but the only big difference, is that the et street has a taller sidewall giving the et drag a big advantage for big horsepower cars in that the et drag sidewall will wrinkle considerably easier than the et street.
Et streets are awesome all around tire for the street and the strip but if you want ultimate hook up if your putting down big power (450=rwhp/torque)then go with et drags. I wish they made the et drag for my 16 inch wheel for my C5 as my new MTI 427 Ironblock will be putting down 500/500 rwhp/rwtq and i know the et streets probably will not hook me up with my Yank PT 4000 and 3.73s on my 98 A4 C5 Roadster.

Re: ET Streets VS ET Drags
i believe the et streets have a stiffer side wall making them DOT approved along w/ the tread pattern. as far as drags over streets, the drags will hook better and are a must in high hp situations. only reason i have et streets is i run my car friday nights in the street race and they require a DOT approved tire. et drags are also good for making 4.10 gears in a 10-bolt go .

Re: ET Streets VS ET Drags
streets will work just fine and the good thing is that you can still run in the street classes. a lot of people with high hp still use streets

Re: ET Streets VS ET Drags
ET drags are much more consistent and hook much harder than ET streets. I have 26x10.5x16 ET Streets and have managed a best sixty of 1.58 with the six speed. (11.30@122mph with a 1.60 sixty)
I am going to have to upgrade to ET drags/more gear if I want to get my sixties in the 1.4's.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: ET Streets VS ET Drags
The scoop I have gotten is ET Streets have a few more cords in the tires and sidewalls to get the approval of a DOT rating. As far as tracking goes, I've heard from others and experienced more mph with the et street as opposed to the et drag. This is probably b/c of the sidewall not chewing up as much horsepower.
Et streets are awesome all around tire for the street and the strip but if you want ultimate hook up if your putting down big power (450=rwhp/torque)then go with et drags.
This is probably true, as I have 2 buddies that race low 11 second cars and have tried et drags and streets, and the drags are more consistent. My car has personally hooked to a 1.58 60 foot on juice on et streets with no spinning, and consistent 1.7 60 foots on motor, but this is with about 330 hp to the wheels, if that, on motor, and I'm guessing 410-420 hp on juice since it's a 125 hp powershot.
Sorry so long, just my 2 cents.
