Default Lids vs. FIPK at the track

I run the FIPK vs. all my buddies who have lids. It seems most of them do not seal all that well, and a couple have problems with the latches staying on. I haven't heard of anyone running comparisons at the track on the two, nor on dyno. Has anyone swapped witht the same combo to see the difference? TIA.

Charlie.

For the lid you have to push the lid back as far as you can then drop it down with the latches. If the lid is to far forward then the latches will pop off. From what i heard they work the same at the track.

I have dyno tested the FIPK vs lid w/ powershot filter.
FIPK made on average 6.7 more RWHP than lid and filter.
I didn't track test it but I know when I see the results on the dyno,
it shows up at the track.
But my car also makes more power with the borla completely closed.(dyno'd)
and at the track I ALWAYS run slower with it open.(cutout)

I did a test on this back in March. On my car (before I switched to an auto trans) -

Hood open - about 492 RWHP with both the lid and the FIPK. No real difference between them.

Hood down - lid was 495 RWHP (gain of 3, but probably just statistical noise); while FIPK lost about 30 RWHP to about 467 RWHP.

Keep in mind that my setup is on a Z28 with a 422 (and an M6 at the time), so other results could vary. But the loss was huge enough for me to chuck it immediately.

I also remember that posting this seemed to make a lot of people angry, for reasons I don't fully understand.

Just get a lid, K&N or Holley filter and then the Free Ram Air and your set.

The difference was 29 HP and 34 RWTQ - slightly different from what I remembered.

I was going to track test these back to back, but have still not gotten around to it.

Wow! If I put the lid and filter back on I could run some respectable times. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
