I have heard that if the RPMS are high enough that you dont need the clutch on a manual you can just rip it to shift. Honestly though its a huge risk, to much is on the line and when you miss that shift you lost the race.

No clutch needed to shift a Jericho. These trannies are worth 0.2 minimum over an auto. Basically, you are putting more power to the pavement and not sacrificing shift times as you do with a normal clutch tranny (T-56). Kind of the best of both worlds.

You missed the whole point of the W non W thing. I spent 4 months tuning my suspension with the W tire to get low 1.3x 60' times. It was not an easy task to keep the front down while still transfering the weight. I learned alot. I was not willing to spend any more time or money to run a 10.5 tire, tow a 30' trailer 1200 miles for one race.

hmmm.. I don't understand this either... I'm not a hardcore racer... I'm still learning, I even had to ask what a "W" tire is...
So what's the big deal about running a wide tire? Because the fender had to be opened a little? Big deal, I've read articles of people doing this themselves in the garage.. so it's just another mod... Seems to me that if "W" tires will be restricted then ET Drags should be as well? or any non-Dot tire ?

It is a Jerico road race transmission that requires the use of the clutch, not a planetary drag race "clutchless" deal, so no real advantage there. Fully syncro'd for up and downshifts. It could maybe go faster with an auto, but that wouldn't be as fun. The stock 6-speed kept breaking so we had to do something. The Jerico was cheaper in the long run and less expensive than a trick auto with a transbrake. Just my two cents.

The trans is really not the point... They (the people bitching about the trans) do not want the SAM car at the race because they haven't figured out how to outrun it!!!! They (the people organizing the race) can say what they want and give all kinds of reasons for excluding the trans but that is the bottom line. That's the point of the rule.
Again if you can run a powerglide with a aftermarket bellhousing, case, tail housing, input shaft, gearset, converter and valvebody why in the hell can't you run a aftermarket
clutchtype Jerico???
Again all this rule is is the "Judson we can't outrun you so we'll outlaw you" rule.
Joe Kizzire ha! Your a **** buddy if you don't think a jericho is a big advantage your smokin some good ****>You compare tire BS to a jericho you need to pull your head out of your ***.Put a automatic in SAMs car and watch it loose atleast a tenth.Next you will be saying lenco's are ok.Production tranny's not race tranny's ballwash!!

Since you're a rocket surgeon I know you can read so please read the above post.

I didn't bring up the trans as a point of contention in this post, you did. I brought it up before because I consider it silly to outlaw a W tire and allow a race transmission. I anything goes, than anything goes... But it seems that you needed to write the rules around the SAM car so you allowed a race trans that no one else uses but outlawed silly things such as a tire because you said it was too difficult to fit into a wheel well. When I pointed out how simple it was, you changed your story. You don't think it is obvious?
In THIS post, I was talking about weight. Again, what do you think my car would run with a custom sheet metal intake (I run an un-modified LS6), the same Jericho that SAM uses, and at the same weight? Probably very similar numbers.
Again, with the resources they have to throw at that car, they should be the quickest. No one else that I know of has a pit crew of ~20 students and a complete set of spare parts on the trailer. It's kind of like going to Maple Grove and competing with John Force.
Why don't you allow the W tire next year, I'll show up and you and SAM can humiliate me? Sounds simple enough to me. I think it would be fun to line up against the Hugger SS. I still be sportin' my same motor and trans.
