Quickest All-Motor on regular radials?
-Tony
Sorry to hear about the problems.....
We jacked it up on my trailer and took a peek. There was a chunk of block missing from the passenger side, with a nice big 2" hole in its place. The chunk was still laying on top of the starter. Looking inside the hole, we can still see the piston/rod intact and still in place. Weird.
We won't know any exact details until we tear the motor down completely. This probably will not happen until the end of December when I have some free time.
Until then, MTI and I will be discussing some future engine ideas for the next go-round. I'd like to have at least 700 rwhp with a power adder.

I guess something good is going to come out of this after all.
GOOD LUCK!
Sorry to hear about the problem, just when I was ready to come down there and race you Hope you get your new setup going quickly.

When I get my heads back, I want to do this over the Christmas Hollidays. Maybe we can arrange a trip. We can talk about it later when I come pick my block up this week.
My engine has been blessed. Its hole-y

If I did not know better, that sounds like a straight out structural block failure. Certainly not a piece of rod or piston through the block from what you described. I could see something like that happening if someone sprayed around 2000 RPM or something like that, but not on a lazy all motor pass. Weird.
Best of luck getting a new motor Tony.

Greg

Hmm, I doubt ther was enough stress on the block to cause it just to crack like that unless it was previously damaged. Hard to say until it gets torn down and inspected. I bet Tony will be staying away from sleeves on his next motor and fill in the void with a healthy dose of the good stuff
Best of luck Tony, hope you are back in the pilot's seat soon.

I am sorry to hear about the motor. Seems like a rather castrophic failure. I bet you lost a rod bolt. I can't imagine you snapped a forged rod NA.
To answer your question though the fastest I have personally seen is 10.87 @ 137 MPH.
Of course my goal is just to get into the high 11's with street tires but I have to figure out traction first...at least my new clutch is in
By what you discribed I'm just wondering...
A C5R block has added ribs on the outside to strengthen it. Could this be another weak point with sleeved stock blocks?

The chunk of block that we found had a scuff kinda shaped like the head of a bolt hitting it.

How did you launch?

Actually, my best 60' that night was a 1.84 on the 18" radials. Unfortunately, it was one of my earlier passes and I gave it too much throttle afterwards and spun all the way thru 2nd and 3rd. Only ran an 11.55 on that pass. I was basically slipping the Cartek clutch out, trying to hold the rpm around 2800-3000 rpm steadily until I felt the weight transfer. The front HAL shocks work wonders, even on street tires. I also ran a completely full tank of gas to try and weigh down the rear a bit more.

In an LS1? I think Colonel ran a time like that, but it was on Nittos.
