"This sure is a fun project but I can't wait till it is all over with"

you sure said it there Tom! I can't wait to get mine done either.
I plan on doing the bmr k member and upper/lower a arms, and a manual rack. Debating whether or not to do chromoly. I might have to have your cage builder make me one someday too, that sure is nice!

mark,
My motor STILL hasn't shipped yet. it's paid for, just waiting on MTI to ship it, supposd to go out tomorrow.

Make sure you do the manual brakes before you install the dash. I made the mistake of waiting. Have fun!

Cage Install

I know I did.

You can say that again. I hope all this work gets me in the mid 10's.

Terry, DO THE CHROME MOLY. It will be lighter and you will GO FASTER . I did. I want to do the manual steering rack but that will be later in 2003 or 04. Rodney would be happy to install your cage. Do a chrome moly cage too. I'll bet my 12 point chrome moly cage doesn't weigh much more (IF ANY MORE) than my mild steel 6 point roll bar did. That thing was HEAVY.

Tom, Good looking roll cage you have there I WILL do the manual brake set up before I re-install the dash. I'm waiting for the parts as we speak. I appriciate the info.

I'm having trouble getting the driver's seat low enough to pass the NHRA chassis inspection, which means the top of your helmet can be no higher than the bottom of the main hoop and upper side bar. Are you using a seat that mounts directly on the floor? Thanks, stealth

Bolted the seat to the bars. Bolted the bars through the floor with added reinforcement. Yhe floor boards are chinsey. I heading over there in an hour or so. I take some pics if I remember.

I am waiting for the brake assembly from Madman so I can install it and get the car back together. I bought the window net this weekend and it will be installed this week sometime. After the brakes are in and the window net bracket welding is finished, I'll be able to paint the cage and button things up.

I just got a new shifter too. It's a Pro Bandit shifter. It's going to be a real pain to install but it will be worth it in the end. It's bad @$$. The cable exits the rear of the shifter and will 360 to the front of the shifter linkage. Minor fabrication will be needed. I am going to install the new tranny in the car, without the engine, so I can install the shifter and check the fitment of the drive shaft. Man I have a lot of work ahead of me.
Later

EDIT: btw I know what you are talking about the head room. Thats why we lowered the seats.

Thanks Scott, the project should be wrapping up soon. The fuel system looks good but I need a connection point under the hood to attach the fuel lines to.

Did you run into any issues with the fuel tank to muffler clearance? As for the connection for the fuel system up front, I'm sure that will be along soon enough.

Man Tom you are going nuts over there I'm going to have to give you a call one of these nights to catch up on your project and fill you in on what I am doing. Everything looks great and I can't wait to see you run the beast.

Hey Pete, How are you man? Give me a call anytime. The project is coming along a little slow. The Holidays slowed us down a bit but it is almost finished.

The cage is almost finished except for the braces that hold the seats to the cross bar and paint. This should be completed today. The NHRA cage certification is scheduled 2 weeks from today. I am going to get my physical soon for my licence. I talked to the NHRA tech guy last night and he said to get your paperwork and physical complete and take it to the NHRA track owner or manager and it will be no sweat for a few licenced drivers to sign for you.

The new PRO BANDIT shifter is installed in the cockpit. This shifter is AWESOME. I love it.

The plate over the HVAC hole in the firewall is complete. Looks good and needs some paint.

The tabs for the seat belts and window net took some time.

MADMANS brake kit will be installed today.

Then the dash can be re-assembled.
OH ya, the Summit heater needs to go in too. These items I will tackle next week.

The new tranny and converter should be completed in 2 weeks or so.

The new engine should be completed soon and by the end of the month I hope to be up and running. If it takes a few weeks extra I'm not going to sweat it. WHAT AM I SAYING I can't wait. I am going crazy waiting. The new engine is a 4.10 bore with a 4-1/8" crank. I guess this makes it a 435.68 ci. It should be somewhat healthy and pretty darn FAST

Tom
