Default ET drags or Street ????

Help me pick my current tire setup.. I have a m6 now with 12bolt and 4:11 gears and currently running 26/11.5/16 on stock rims w/old crager skinnys on vw radials on stock shocks and springs. Now, The stock rim is 8" wide and of coarse a 16" rim,My best 60" so far is 1.63, usually mid 1.6's. I usually launch about 5800 or 6K and dump the clutch. They usually hold...

Now, my question is, my new bogarts the rims are 15x9.75 which is more meat on the ground and more sidewall so i should diffently hook better, but since im hooking decent on the streets should i stay with the streets?? I run them on the street sometimes on the weekends, and on the street will the drags help me hook?? Of coarse staying with the 26/11.5/15 combo. Any thoughts would help, im leaning towards the streets since i dont think its the tires, more of the shocks since when i launch, the weight seems to head back up front upon intial launch... Thanks.

Default Re: ET drags or Street ????

I've run both et streets and et drags. differences are:
1-et streets have a few more cords in them for a stiffer (not by much) sidewall.
2-They do not eat as much mph as a similar set of slicks (testing by mickey thompson and I experienced the same in my own testing). Plus they are a little easier to drive on at the finish line.
3-I have seen some cars "work" better with slicks due to "hard launches". This could be a manual application or an auto with a hard-hitting converter.

I'm still running ET streets myself, and love em!

Just my $.02

Also don't forget about racing class. If you compete at all, I would stick with the ET Streets. This will keep you in the D.O.T. class. That is what swayed me to the ET Streets.

I used to run a 26x10.5x15 ET Street. A good tire, but I had to drop the pressure to 13psi to get them sonsabitches to hook, and even then they would sometimes spin. My new ET Drags are 26x10x15, and even at 18psi and I haven't been able to spin them yet. Since I run a higher pressure with the ET Drags the car is actually more stable on the top end.

Just my experience.

-I went 1.55-1.57 with 26x11.5x16 et streets at 20 psi
-Went 1.50 with 26x11.5x15 et streets at 16psi on 15x10's
-Went 1.62 on mh racemasters 275-50-15's at 15-20 psi (crappy, but old tires)
-Went 1.46-1.49 on 28x11.5x15 hoosier slicks on 15x10's, used slicks
-Went 1.51 on 28x9x15 et drags at 14 psi

I really like the idea of using DOT tires but then again I drive my car on the street all the time when I have ET Streets on it.

I plan to run a set of M/T 28x12.5x15 ET Streets for the 2003 racing season. I might try to fit the 13.5's we'll see.

Used ET streets for a long time with a 6 speed and 4.10's and could only muster high 1.6's consistantly. After the ET drags I was pulling high 1.5's to low 1.6's consistantly. I must say the ET drags were MUCH more stable at any speed compared to the ET street at the same pressure.

Honestly, seems like a pretty simple answer.

If you are going to run the tires on the street, or compete in a class that requires a DOT-legal tire, then get the ET Streets.

If you want the best hooking track tire, and don't care about the street, get the ET Drags.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

i am going to have to say the same thing as raging motorsports here. i ran both the et streets and drags and the drags were MUCH more consistent! in my 6 speed setup with streets i pulled average of high 1.67 or so and sometimes as high as 1.75! the drags never netted me anything higher than 1.69 and were a consistent 1.63 or so with my much less than optimal autocross springs! lol. the drags deadhooked. go with them for max effort. et streets are great for the street (duh)

also, i am CERTAINLY not taking anything away for the guys above, but most guys that love and hook hard with streets are auto cars. the 6 speed shocks the tires so damn hard the drags are needed. also the big end was much more stable on the drag vs. the streets.

I'm running the 26-8.5x15 ET DRAG on 15x7 Centerline Convo-Pro's w/5.5 backspace on my '02 A4 SS. They work GREAT on this car. WJ.

Just wondering, had a friend with a bad experience with e/t streets on 16" rims, got kinda squirly at the top end. Has anybody else had this problem? Kinda scares me cause I've never ran on anything other than street tires. The tires I now own have been run by 2 other guys I know, and they had no problems. Just curious of anybody else's experiences. Thank you.

Any psi below 19, and the ET Streets and M&H dots will be really squirrely on the top end---unless you run tubes in them...I've learned from experience...WJ.

I don't run my ET Streets with tubes(26x10.5x16) and I had to drop the psi down to 13 in them to hook because we had no track prep on WED. nights. I had a best of 1.6 60ft and I didn't feel nervous at the top end at all.

My ET streets with 13 lbs in them are squirrley as hell, but they hook at this pressure. 15-16 lbs and i can blow the tires off,(LACK OF PREP). My next set will be DRAGS,just want too try to run with more pressure!
