Default Let's give some thought to driveshafts...

I'd like to know what everyone is running for a driveshaft...

I'm looking for something that will save some rotational weight, be stronger than the stock steel one, and reduce the highway vibrations I'm getting with the stock steel driveshaft/Ford 9" w/ 4.56's combo I've got.

Billingsley's chromoly driveshafts caught my eye, and I wonder if Jay might find his way in here to tell me how much power/traction these will hold, and whether the standard or severe-duty one would be better for my application.

My application is a track car that is also daily-driven on the street. For now, it is a naturally-aspirated internally-stock LS1 with a T56 and a Ford 9" rear with 31-spline axles, a spool and 4.56 gears. Will be making many track appearances on 28" x 10.5" x 15" ET Drags.

Let's hear some thoughts.

Mark Williams Duralcan MMC aluminum shaft here. real strong, and even with the huge th400 yoke is only 12lbs

i used a Mark Williams chromoly shaft last year. when i changed trannys i went with to the aluminum shaft to save weight and also because of the higher critial speed

Had a Dynotech MMC aluminum shaft at one point too. not as strong as the MW shaft/yoke, but quite a bit cheaper, 12lbs, and is a ton stronger than the stock shafts

I run denny's heavy duty steel driveshaft.
It weighed 18#.
I would have gone with the nitrous shaft
but I didn't have the 3150 yolk.
No problems yet,but I don't make enough power
to hurt anything . <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Denny's Nitrous ready is in route to my house <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I went ahead and got the chromoly 1350 rear end yoke and the billet trans yoke as well. Once I get a spool and longer wheel studs for my axles I will be ready for some 28" tires and 5k+ launches on spray <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />
