Default Tire and gearing question

I am currently running in the 12.00X range on stock rear and 3.42's with 17" Nittos. My average 60' is around the 1.93 range. I will soon be installing a Ford 9" with 3.89 gears and 27" Hoosier QTPs. It is a true 27 inch tire. I realize that my 60's will drop, but by how much? Also, is 3.89 enough gear for a 27" tire running N/A? A link to one of those calculators would be nice if anyone knows. Check sig for mods. I get the feeling I didn't get enough gear. Would a 4.56 gear be more in order?

The 3.89 gear with 27 inch tires is not enough gear for N/A. Its perfect for N20 but you need at least 4.10 gears with 4.30's probably your best bet. At 120 through the traps, 4.56 would be spinning 6800 which is IMO the most you want to spin a stock bottom motor. That doesn't leave you alot of room for more mph. 3.89 gear at 120 is only 5825 or so rpms. 4.10 or 4.33 would be the best choice IMO.

May end up buying another center section just for track use. Full aluminum spool with 4.29 gears <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

they would be OK if you run a 26 inch tall tire but that extra inch really would like 4.30's

I say u put some 4.10s in your stock rear and use it, and let me have the 9" and use it, those gears are perfect for me <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> , so we all end up happy <img border="0" alt="[gruffy cottonball]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_gruffy.gif" /> lol
