History making LS1
I just have had my run ins with "stock" cylinder heads in other classes that were far from stock. The guy that I race with has been approached by reps from several outfits telling all that they could do for us.
Since you seem to be involved with this program, I will take you statement at face value and accept what you say as being truthful.
Congrats to you and Al...
Who cares what they do, its still a 346, and it runs 9s!
As far as Cylinder head stuff goes, there is a lot in the valvejob. I remember agostino briefly talking about that.
Hey, Al hasnt told us his combo, Lets Flame him!!
All Kidding aside, Hightech and Al combined make one helluva combo
engine with max .070 overbore, stock replacement rod allowed, stk crank, stk oil pan and pump, stk replacement piston with stk dimension rings, unported heads, stk valve size, stock lift cam (.500), unmodified manifold and t.b., any header and management system.
GM 3sp auto, any converter, 12 bolt diff, any gear, stock suspension with bolt on traction device, 9" wide by 30" tall slick, stock interior (minus back seat).
Congrats to Al...I wonder what HE could get a "stock internal" car to run
Probably faster than his 9.97...

Another great reason for LS1 owners everywhere to be proud. Al Corda just made the first ever 9 sec. pass in Stock Eliminator at a national event with his 2002 Firebird. The car went 9.974 @ 132 MPH in the first round of qualifying at the Winternationals at Pomona in the new fuel injected class - A/FIA. This is the fastest actual run ever recorded by a stock eliminator car of any kind.
Congratulations Al

Congrats to Al and all his support crew (you, etc.). If you can answer, what was raceweight (with Big Al in it). I've got the factored hp and weight range and assume he was down low.
Also, can you saw what gearing and stall he's running these days? If not, I surely understand. Take care.
also, the trannmissions they run in stock to keep weights down are usually serviced every 2-3 races, hell with what Al spends on transmissions alone you could build a 11-10 second f-body from a stock patient

Al's trans is a Scott McClay built metric 200 and it gets freshened about every 150 passes.
The race weight on the 9.97 run was 2950lb with 750 ft. corrected altitude. The rear end gear varies with class and weight .... 4.56, 4.75, or 4.88. The stall speed is over 5000 RPM but less than 6000.
HiTech
Would you be able to tell us the max RPM Al hits on a pass? If you want to do like on stall and give a "range"...that's good too
I suppose we can figure it from gear/tire diam pretty close...is the converter a lockup type?

Can't hurt.
thank you.

The converter is non-lockup as the only way to use a lockup converter under NHRA rules is to use a 700R4 trans which is too heavy to make the car perform as it does.
