Re: History making LS1
Ok, point taken.
I just have had my run ins with "stock" cylinder heads in other classes that were far from stock. The guy that I race with has been approached by reps from several outfits telling all that they could do for us.
Since you seem to be involved with this program, I will take you statement at face value and accept what you say as being truthful.
Congrats to you and Al...

*cough* Acid *cough Ahem
Who cares what they do, its still a 346, and it runs 9s! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
As far as Cylinder head stuff goes, there is a lot in the valvejob. I remember agostino briefly talking about that.
Hey, Al hasnt told us his combo, Lets Flame him!! <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />
All Kidding aside, Hightech and Al combined make one helluva combo <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Re: History making LS1
We now arguably own the fastest "stock" drag car in the world. Good thing he didn't buy into that manual tranny nonsense (I'm assumming there actually is a matching manual tranny class for "AFI") <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" /> J/K
Congrats to Al...I wonder what HE could get a "stock internal" car to run <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Probably faster than his 9.97... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />

Re: History making LS1
For those who think the motor is even close to stock, not by a mile. Ask his engine builder what it cost him, you could build a hell of a stroker motor for it. These guys keep secrets worse than cheating wives. The crank hp these motors make will rival large strokers. The bad thing about racing stock eliminator is you have to stick to a motor program to get better every year. Otherwise you fall behind. Its damn expensive racing but fun as hell.

Re: History making LS1
Actually, the only specs I won't reveal about the engine is the cam and the exact power output... although I will say it is between 500 and 530 crank pwr.

Re: History making LS1
also, the trannmissions they run in stock to keep weights down are usually serviced every 2-3 races, hell with what Al spends on transmissions alone you could build a 11-10 second f-body from a stock patient! Stock and Super Stock are my favorite race classes, but rest assured, besides comp eliminator, some classes are VERY expensive to run in, let alone be at the top of the class like Al. I can't wait to watch class eliminations at the Gatornationals this year! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> ever watch Al's car launch from the 1000 foot mark? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> WOW!

The race weight on the 9.97 run was 2950lb with 750 ft. corrected altitude. The rear end gear varies with class and weight .... 4.56, 4.75, or 4.88. The stall speed is over 5000 RPM but less than 6000.

Re: History making LS1
thank you.
Would you be able to tell us the max RPM Al hits on a pass? If you want to do like on stall and give a "range"...that's good too <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
I suppose we can figure it from gear/tire diam pretty close...is the converter a lockup type?

Re: History making LS1
Watching the Winternats on ESPN2..start of the show, as they were giving the track details, they stated it was at the NHRA limit of 1% downhill...14 feet.
Can't hurt. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
