Default Why cant I get my BFGs to hook on the street?

I just finished mounting a set of BFG 275/60/15 Drag Radials on a set of 15inch rims I had here at the house..

So I decided to take them out and see how well they hook since Ill be using them at the drag strip in a week..

So I lower the PSI to 20lbs and perceed to do a burnout to get the tires hott.. I launch and nothing, tons of wheelspin all the way through first and part of 2nd.

So I set there and figure well they just need a little less air. 18psi and I get the same thing. 16psi and I get the same thing..

I have a set of nittos that I can usually hook on the street really well, but the BFGs just arent hooking at all.. I even tried walking into it and the tires just went up in smoke..

There has been many times that I have dead set hooked my nittos on the street. But whats the matter with my BFGs?? Someone around here told me they hook better on the street with more air, but that doesnt seem right...

All you BFG guys that run them on the streets, what is your secret for hooking?

I have a stock motored LS1 Trans Am with ST3500, 3.23s, and boltons...

I had some similar tires, as tall too, and I would lower the air to 16-18 cold, and then do a full burnout...

It's kind of cold out right now I can spin the tires on my truck no problem.

IMO road surface has alot to do with traction. I know when I take my ET Drags on the street if there is any kind of dirt or rocks in the road they'll spin all though first gear (even after a burnout).

Even a poorly prepped track surface is a lot different than a public road goes.

I wouldn't even try to compare the two...

There isn't a local street around here that I can manage to pull 90 foot wheelstands on. It's not much of a problem at the track.

This kind of funny, but only because I feel your pain. I have been there and I still am. It's the Yank ST3500. That is an awesome track converter , but your not going to hook on the street with a drag radial of any kind. I love mine , but it's not for street racing. A Yank SY3500 would be more suitable for street use. That ST3500 is like a sling shot at the track though. Good luck!

The Bfgs Are soft and pick up sand and gravel,They also have a thin tread depth which makes some street surfaces difficult. Warm summer weather they hook better. Nittos are much closer to street tires but have a larger patch area on the surface an that contact makes them better for street racing year round. The starting Line at the Track is smoother and has Lots of Rubber over it.The Rubber makes the VHT stick for good traction,So BFGs hook more like Slicks and Nittos do also. Give them a good 4sec burn out and kick BUT.
