Default Transbrake users do you shallow stage?

I'm getting used to using a transbrake and am curious as to what you guys do when you stage. i'm thinking I need to load the suspension a bit more, but I don't want to roll thru the staging beams when I get on the brake.

John,

I do my burnout and I pull up the to lights until the 1st set of bulbs light up. When the 1st 2 bulbs light up then I press the transbrake button and take my foot off the brake and the car rolls forward slighty enough and lights the 2nd set of bulbs. At that point I'm fully on the transbrake ready to go.

Almost the same as Big Mike, except I do lite the 2nd set and than hold the t/b in. It rolls forward just a "touch". I tried Mike's method, guess just didn't get the roll to light the staged lights. The SS does not like to be "pushed" into the t/b on the gas, but does better when idled in.

PSJ,

I always shallow stage, but that's more for looking towards the result of consistant lights. Shallow also helps a little to have a running start before you trip the beams and will net a slight gain on ET. Never tried getting into the t-brake while loading the car up. To me it always seemed easier to dial the suspension when the car is neutral since that takes out any potential variances.

Not sure if you watched any of my passes at the cordova rental, but i was T-braking on all of them, car usually rolls forward .5 inch or so. You cant really load the suspension at all unless you had line lock for the back brakes to (what some turbo RACE cars use) When you press the brake in it unloads the suspension. hence the small roll. It hasnt ever (FOR ME) rolled the beems or anything like that sometimes if you prestage the push the button it will be fully staged but never anyprobs for me. Takes a little gettting used to launching on a button, and im used to driving a stick car at the track just weird.

I shallow stage after the burnout, grab the pull cord, make sure I'm in 1st gear

Then as soon as the 2nd yellow flashes, I go WOT and then GO

transbrake newbie . . . how does the whole trans brake process "happen"?
do you stage, then apply trans brake, wait until the second yellow and go WOT (I assume you can only rev as high as your stall will let you), then on the last yellow release the transbrake and off ya go???

You can really do whatever you want, practice on the street, go off a light if you want, dont get caught though.....its like dumping the clutch in a 6-speed......

Make sure your in 1st gear
Hold down the button (whereever you have it)
Floor the gas pedal
Let go of the button when you want and get ready to shift, especially if you are using street tires

This is a good move that I think most of us like to do. Waiting for the second yellow before stabbing it means less time for the fluid to heat up.

Mean, I highly suggest practicing with the trans brake on a side street or parking lot to get a feel for it. On the line with the tree counting down it's too much pressure to remember everything.

I tend to shallow stage anyway but the car does roll forward about an inch when I let off the brake.

do your burnout,then stop.
Put the car back in first gear( arm your nitrous if using any)
creep foward until the first yellow comes on.(purge if spraying)
GO SLOW WHILE CREEPING INTO THE FIRST YELLOW.

creep foward a little until the second yellow comes on,stop, apply the transbrake.

Sportsman tree- give it some gas 2-3k, when the tree starts coming down(when you see the 1st yellow) go WOT, release on the last yellow.

Pro tree-go WOT ,release as soon as you see ANY yellow.

Shallow staging is always better for ET/MPH.
If your reactions are bad on a .400 protree, you might wanna deepstage.

PSJ, my Nova has T-brake and it does the creep also, but i have to stand on the throttle to count on consistent creep. So if i want to fully stage using this creep as part of my routine, im at the mercy of the starter. This can mean long full throttle 6k waits. If i do stage first than hit brake i go in deeper than ideal

John, I most definitly shallow stage. But I do it for the maximum roll out. I am a bracket racer. I only shallow stage for two things. I can consistantly put the car in the same spot in the lights for consistant rollout. The second is for maximum rollout. You have the most room before RED. If you are going to cut the tree down at the roots you will need all the room. Only suggestion is when you go on the brake, make sure you aren't on the gas any. It tends to surge the car a little. That really only applies if you two foot the car. Just ALWAYS do the same thing. It will give you a consistant start. I know everyone has there own way of doing things but I don't wait to go on the brake. After both cars are completly staged ( not prestaged) I go on the brake. The only time I wait is if I am in competition and I am giving the other guy a large headstart.
