Re: Anyone weigh the rear hatch glass?
Do you know if you can get it tinted? How about mounting it so it is waterproof? 45+ pounds (If the lexan is about 10-20 pounds) weight saving is AWESOME!
Cheers,
Chris

Where's Terry? Didn't he go !hatch?
Pull the glass and replace it with Saran wrap. You won't even need 1 lb of the stuff. Don't worry about waterproof - you can't race in the rain.

Re: Anyone weigh the rear hatch glass?
I don't know boys, I've had a hardcoated polycarbonate rear windshield in my 99 Z28 1LE since it was new. That'd be about 4 years now. I got mine from Form Tec Plastics. I had it hard coated and the tint is the darkest option available, and the tints in the polycarbonate itself. It's for SCCA purpose built road race cars, so I did have to trim to fit. I've had no waterleaks, there's also no distortion. These guys make canopies for real badasses. I'm not a drag racer, because I got absolutely no traction at all if I stomp on it below 65mph, or I'll be upside down.

The front for our cars in 1/4" (they sell 3/16" and 1/8" but it would bow) is $404.85 + truck shipping. It weighs 29# vs. 45#. The rear hatch glass is $366.23 + truck shipping ($428.49 tinted) in 3/16" (the minimum to not have to brace for deformation at speed). It weighs 22# vs. 38#.
Don't forget that your stock front is part of the frontal crashworthiness (unless fully caged). You make the choice on whether not it's worth the money, fitment issues, etc. for 16# or 32#.
For my ~$900 (w/shipping), I'll spend it elsewhere. An aluminum spool and some gun-drilled axles would do me better if I wanted to go that route right now. Take care.
