Default Why is my car so slow??

I was running the 315 street tires... the previous owner has richened it up using edit due to the ported maf and throttle body. I have not yet edited it to lower the fan temp switch so the car was running a little warmer than it should with the 160 stat.

of the two 12's i ran here is the best:

1.96 60'
8.29 1/8 mile @ 86.63mph
12.79 @ 109.89mph

WTF? there are guys in the car club with just exhaust and lid running 12.6's-12.8's with similar 60's and 2-3 more mph trap speeds.

I cut a 1.87 60' a few weeks earlier but i was bracket racing and slammed on the brakes to prevent running out...

I fooled around with a MAf translater... tried 6% lean at WOT and 6% rich at WOT.. with the base untouched.... couldn't tell a diff... but then again street tires don't allow you to be very consistent.

All runs were with the cut-out open shifting at 6000-6100.. need a shiftlight... the weather was good.. low humidity/temp.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

j-rod i dont think you are shifting it high enough correct me if im wrong i think the hotcam should be shifted a couple hundred RPM's higher than that??? maybe that will net better times....dont worry j-rod you WILL smoke my *** i promise im gonna have to spend some money to play catch up now

that car has alot more power then its showing at the track. Ive seen the car on the street, previous owner and she was nasty, plus he was awesome at doing his own work!

Its no doubt a low 12 car or upper 11's. You just have to GET THAT 60 DOWN! You can make all the power you want but cut a crappy 60 and shift a little early and its gonna throw your ET's off

You should be shifting roughly 6300-6400 or so with hot cam. Also that car is heavy and if you drop some weight off that will help also(mph will come up)

also keep in mind a hotcam isnt that big of a cam. 20HP from it would be a good gain and thats only what about 2 tenths? Keep praticing the launch, guys with stock cars can cut 1.8's on street tires once they figure how to ride the clutch

Well it feels fast... and i know.. Tom did a great job on the car.. thanks man!

I wouldn't be worried if the mph was up... i ran a 2002 firehawk who had street tires, longtube headers and underdrives... he was mph'ing in the 111 area... and look at Extreme above... 112-113 mph without a cam... i also ran a 1.90 60' that night, still a 12.79 at less mph.

The clutch is slipping pretty badly now.. so when i hook.. it's not gripping enough to run lower 60's.

I guess i can hold out for awhile.. i have a 12 bolt, spec stage 4 clutch, Denny's DS and a few other odds and ends coming in about a week or two.

Thanks for the input... please keep it coming!

i think one you get the clutch and shifting down your mph will come up alot. I wouldnt worry untill you get somemore behind the seat at the track time yet though

plus the cars heavy with those huge rims on the back. Looks sweet, but it needs a diet HAHAHAH

Or you could always try the David mod, see what he can wring out of it. That will at least tell you if its you or the car. I wouldnt let Jay drive it though, he's kinda fruity. You do know they found Cher's wig in his car right?

Ahh ha!.... well after a little tweaking and a few adjustments on my part, the car is noticeably more responsive and doesn't fall on it's face topend... also David (MIGHTYMOUSE) noticed something else which can easily be fixed and will definitely help out. Can't wait to get it back out on the track!

Sounds to me like you could use a dyno tune. Make sure if you do get a tune that they use a wideband this will solve your rich condition. And you will pick up MPH. I went from 114 mph to 119 in the 1/4 with just a dyno tune.
