Default k&n air filter, good or bad?

Someone told me that if your racing that you really shouldn't have a k&n air filter because it doesn't really do much and it might hold back a little on your horsepower. What do you think?

A filter is a filter in my book. You're not going to see any gains with it. Actually, I've seen guys run with no filter at all and they didn't make any gains. A K&N is good because it's reusable. That's pretty much it IMO. If I had to do it again, I'd go with a Holley Powershot instead of the K&N.
