Re: Is a 4 point roll bar legal?
4pt is not legal for nhra or ihra.
You need at least a 5pt bar.
I went with a 8pt,and have both door bars,if i have to climb over a bar,so does the passenger.

Re: Is a 4 point roll bar legal?
5 point bar will keep you legal to 10 flat in nhra provided two things:
1-not a convertible
2-floorpan in front of the rear seat and firewall are not altered.
Granted a 6 point bar is better for tying the frame together, but my Nova will get a 5-point as I already have frame connectors.

yes if its the one with the side bars between your shoulder and elbow and if its bolted on with plates on top of and under floor pan [and its not a bolt together bar-the bar must be a weld together] or if plates are welded to FLOORS, bob

,most cages are actualy are 6pt unless 2 diagnal bars go to tunnel or frame connectors[before everyone jumps on me the 2 side bars usually go to the front uprights so unless you have the 2 diags like i said and they are mandatory when a cage is put on plates[pge 209 of rule book see diag. read D] if its a chassis car[ ie chevelle, malibu, corvetteanything with a full frame under it]the cage then has to be mounted to the chassis and dosnt require the 2 diags to tunnel. what else is needed are ,a window net, padding anywhere drivers helmet can contact[pge 203], and the instaler should put tabs for required shoulder harness [so its bolted to spine bar and cannot slip off you in case of accident]and if you go faster than 9.99 a chassis cert that should cover the basics hope this helps. bob
the right way[ie legal] for the install is not on tubs, the back bars belong on floor preferably over rails .esp if you ever want to add to it ,the bare min is 5 pts ,for your application.
do it right the first time ,and you wont have to replace it later ie spend more money , if you ever have to add to it. bob
below some picts of rollbar and cage instals

O.K., here's another question, the cage pic's that you have, the 2nd one shows what looks like the control ***** for teh windows hanging from the doors, does anyone make a cage that allows you to keep youe stock door interior, or does that have to come out? And if it does have to come out, what's everyone using for a replacement interior, or does teh stock one just get hacked up? Also, how do all the stock interior roof liners etc. end up back into the car...that's gotta be a trick.

no the interior does not have to come out except to do the work,
that car had the door panels out ,before it got here he had to put them back so we could get around panels,[he just didnt hook things up]heres some picts of a formula .the interior does not get hacked up
