I've noticed the last couple of times I've been to the track my car has been about 3 mph slower than it used to be. I didn't think much of it other than maybe it was just the air temp and humidity. Last night I went to the track to test out the new TC and my mph was still about the same, 3 mph slower. Temps were about 68 and the humidity wasn't all that high. I'm just curious if there is something wrong with my car or is this to be expected now that my car has some higher miles on it? I rarely race my car and it sees very limited track use (maybe 5 times a year). Anyone have some suggestions on some things I might need to look at?
BTW, I did have about .1 improvement over my previous best ET. Thats not that great considering I just installed a TC. My 60ft times dropped into the 1.9 area on street tires, which I was happy about. My old 60fts used to be in the 2.2-2.1 range before TC. The car definately launches a whole lot harder now.

This has been discussed on here a few times before. Most people are of the opinion that all things being equal except for a high stall vert, you should be seeing an overall improvement in E.T. equal to or greater than your improvement in 60' time. However, the verter never locks up and depending on how efficient it is, you will lose MPH on the big end. I have personally experienced this phenomenen, and lost MPH after installing a verter, but improved my short time by over 3 tenths, and bettered my E.T. by almost 5 tenths, I lost a couple of MPH. I cannot explain the physics of this, but I know it is common. For example, a six speed car with your same mods, would undoubtedly trap quite a bit higher in MPH, due to direct drive and no loss thru a stall verter, but you would have him so badly out of the hole, that he could never catch you even if he was trapping 5 mph faster than you. The stickier tire you can get on your car, the more you will see the improvment a TC can provide you.
Just enjoy the improved E.T., after all, that's what counts.

I know why I keep going slower, I get one thing upgraded and that exposes something else that I need to do. My best example is taking alot of weight off the front of my car (over 100 lbs)made my front suspension top right out and that killed my launch making me slower even though my car weighed alot less, I'm constantly shooting myself in the foot but learning alot as I go into the 11s with no motor mods
Good luck to ya, Tom
I appreciate the information. I understand that I may actually go slower (mph) with the TC; however, my car started going slower even before the new TC was installed. Thats what has me kinda concerned. My car now has 102K on the clock and I'm thinking that this may have something to do with me running slower. I am getting a lot more detonation than I used to.
Seems like it would go faster with the motor just getting broke in good. These engines now days are built with good long lasting parts from the factory and should live longer than in the "old days" My 95 Lumina has about 217,000 miles on er and its running better than ever...never rebuilt just new intake gaskets at about 120,000 mi so I dont think miles really matter untill 300,000 or so anymore. Hang in there you'll figure it out.
Thanks again for the reply. I'm thinking it may just be carbon build-up in the combustion chamber. I did notice the other day that when I pulled my #1 plug it had some oil on the threads. Any thoughts on this?
I dont know where the oil like substance comes from but I have noticed that on other plug changes Ive done on other engines. Must be normal stuff. I have never really thought about it. If anyone knows tell us why the sparkplug threads seem oily when you take em out???? I'll go post that in the right spot.
I've seen (and personally experienced) a loss of trap speed attributed to a tranny going downhill. The clutches may not be holding as well as they used to...
It's the original tranny and it has about 102K on it. I was thinking that that also could be a possible reason. I've heard of that slowing down cars before.
