Do I need a Blanket/Shield??? Help make me SAFE!???
and I like the track officials-how can I be as safe as possible?????? ADVICE Please!!! Thanks! Cynthia
I haven't heard of any 4L60E's exploding. Flexplates, yes. The actual trans, no.
Clutches, yes. TH400's / TH350's, yes.
But if you're spinning high, I'd run a blanket or a shield (shields let heat out better, but are more difficult to install). I run a blanket on my M6 bellhousing, along with an SFI-rated clutch. If you're very worried about explosions with your automatic, run an SFI rated flexplate as well.
Can you run at most tracks without this equipment? Yes. Does it make me feel safer knowing I have a kevlar blanket and an SFI rated clutch when doing a 6500 RPM 2-step clutch dump on slicks? Yes. Likely you don't *have* to have it, but safety equipment is always a good idea.
after watching somebody clutch explode on the track, i thought it might be a good idea.
i only do 5k clutch drops though.
