Default Old school power?

Here is one for you guys I havent heard before, you might have. I have a friend that is buddies with a guy that used to be real big in drag racing in the early 90's. He used to run a metallic purple 68 Nova. The car had a blown 532 BBC, that I know from dyno sheets put down around 980whp. My buddy told me that this car put down power so well that he actually spun the axle in BOTH rear wheels during a launch, totally destroying the wheels(supposedly). It was running 15X10 drag lites with a 28X10.5 slick. Oh yeah through a TH400. I just havent heard of that happening before.

okay, where the flag. Never heard of or seen that one. I've heard of breaking off the studs, turning the slick on the wheel rim, breaking axles and such, but never that one. There are quite a few cars with double that power that never break the wheel centers (example-NMRA super street outlaw, PRO super street for 10.5 tires, NHRA pro stock, etc). Sounds right up there with the "hundred dollar bill on the dash" story..

To be honest that is what I thought. I am really not into drag racing, so I didnt now if has EVER happen. Much less if it was micro common.

An event that unique would have caused someone to pull out a camera to photograph the carnage and submit it to a magazine.......I wouldn't put much worth into that story.

The driver tapes a 100 dollar dill on the dash, and if you can grab it before you hit 100 mph, it's yours! Beware of the HEMI, big block that is!

yep, I love hearing all the stories about how good everything "was" back in the day. Car shows always bring out the good stuff where you wonder how long you can keep a straight face while listening to the bs...
