Default Consistency for LS1?

I am looking for ways to make my 2000 Z28 more consistent. The car is mostly stock with the exception of aftermarket PTC 3500 stall converter. I've tried using the, MAFTranslator but it didn't really help that much, i've had the best results with the 4.7k ohms resistor plugged into the IAT sensor, but im still hoping to find more consistency without buying F.A.S.T or anything like that. If anyone has any tips or tricks please let me know.

Thanks,

BAMALS1

I know several people who bracket race bolt on LS1 cars with stock computers, one does very well and even went to the bracket finals two years in a row with the car in foot brake.

That seems fairly consistant to me

Thanks for the relpy, yeah I race run my every weekend in Footbrake and it does fairly well but sometimes it throws me for a loop and i will have the guy killed on the tree and that sucks. I have lost a bunch of big races on the count of it. I heard something about installing a certain resistor in the water temp sensor in the cylinder head? but i don't know just thought maybe some of you guys might have heard about it.

Again Thanks,

you may be hurting yourself by using fixed resistors, the sensors are made to compensate for weather changes so if the temp drops the ECU doesnt know its making things worst.

Manual fans and keeping the water temp constant between rounds is a good idea as well.

First thing to do would be get something like HPtuners and get your shift points correct and also make sure your LTFTs are zero at WOT, if they are positive you will get some passes where it dumps more or less fuel depending on how you leave the line.

detonation is not your friend also, lots of things can really screw with your 60'/ET..

My wife used to bracket race our Camaro SS. She has won a few trophies, awards and plaques. It was deadly consistent running 7.95s at our local 1/8 mile track. We were even invited to the Summit ET Finals this past year, hoping to make the next finals as well. We are now setting up her Z28 to run 10s at sea level and race even more bracket races.

The cylinder head thing I have never heard about, your coolant sensor goes in there, you don't want to pull that out and replace it with a resistor. If your engine is running hot, you'll never know and will loose your engine. If you want to run in open loop, just get something like HPTuners (which I highly recommend) and tune the ECM to stay in open loop.

I've raced my Formula numerous times and it runs very consistent. The key I've found is consistent tire prep (burnout), and consistent engine temps. I keep the hood open until I have to run and run the car around 195-200 degrees. Works great, only problem is sometimes the driver sucks!

Haha, yeah Derek I have that problem sometimes too. I have a 160 thermostat, and a manual fan switch to help, next i'm gonna get an aftermarket water temp gauge to be more precise.

I was also gonna do a rear gear swap, going from 2.73's to 3.73's! Anybody know about how much that might pick my e.t up? Right now runnung 8.0's-8.1's @ 84-85 mph, with 3500 stall and common bolt ons.

I'm still using the factory thermostat and factory gauge but a manual fan switch. I'm thinking the switch helps out a bunch!. The gear switch should make it .2-.4 faster based on my experiences with other cars I've seen swaps done on.

Bama, don't be so modest. This guy won the track championship at our local track a couple of years back, and is ALWAYS a contender at any race he goes to.

His car does have a tendency to just up and lose .05 to a tenth almost out of nowhere. Definitely bites him on the a$$ from time to time.

I think gears, headers and HPtuners will have you hooked up J.

Got "Endz"???

Hey man, we got this on lock. What we need to do now is get on the same page and BOTH of us win the Championship next season. We both know we can do it, now let's just make it happen!

Yeah, sure, OK, as soon as your "Super Tuner" gets that *******, Draggin, Laggin (behind) Wagon ALMOST as consistent as my digger... and we both know that'll happen...!

We can't share the title in Pro anyway, you just need to go on and get it (again) in Footbrake!

Holla at ya boy!

:::Snicker, snicker:::

Just remember, the 2 stroke mix goes in the 4 wheeler, the alcohol goes in the glass bottle in the freezer, and the GAS-O-LINE goes in the damn race car!

Y'all got that!

Electric water pump can help when hot-lapping to get the temps down quicker. IE Ignition and fan on, but not motor. It does not take long at all to get it to ~180. When running 2 classes, this is almost a must for me if doing well in both. Gotta watch out for the battery though....
