I'm going to call them soon. I was going to ask them if I can just pay for 6 months, since that's as long of a season I have to race.

They'll probably then say and think I am

Honestly I could care less about the car, its paid for and I can live without it. I am more worried about getting sued if something happens on the track or in the pits and someone decides to take me to court over it. If you have nothing to loose its no big deal but when you have a house, business and some net worth its a concern, your auto liability policy wont help you one bit at the track in most cases.. Not to mention a lot of health insurance policys will not cover any kind of auto racing so if you get hurt it can cost a lot of money - thats why I am an NHRA/IHRA member, in case my health insurance doesnt cover it (as far as I know they do at present, sure not going to call and ask) I have something to help pay medical bills if something happens.

I dont know what would happen if your regular auto insurance found out you had drag racing coverage through a different company, as far as I knew most major insurance carriers dont allow more then one policy on a car - not sure about that though. There has to be an insurance expert on LS1tech somewhere, maybe they can chime in

Couple good articles on track insurance coverage/liability, little old (2002) but a good read:

Ok when I applied I opted for the racing and non-racing insurance. And had a $1,000 deductible for racing and $500 for non-racing and they quoted me at 840.00 and I think that that is yearly.

If this hood went through my windshield, or even worse went through and knocked me out cold, would my car and I be covered, or is the coverage just for the car?
yes and yes.

If a carrier such as Farmer's finds out your racing, they will drop your coverage. You can split your coverages also between your current carrier and Lloyds, or Lloyds will handle your current coverage plus racing.

I don't believe that Lloyds or any domestic carrier will cover liability at the track. On the other hand, every racer signs a release when you pay your fee and get your arm band the day of the race that releases the track and everyone else from liability. But that doesn't mean you can't be sued.

This past July at Cordova my chute caught and rolled a guy on an ATV on the return road at about 10 mph. The track offical told him in my presence that he accepted all such risks when he entered the gates.

Man, if I totalled my car, it would sit in the garage for years before I had $ to get to it.

UPDATE:

I just had a verrry nice conversation with a rep named Christine...she sounded hot as hell and some very good info here.

She said there is a 20% discount if you go with a 8 month policy. Also, they determine the value of your car by:

1) Adding up all your mod receipts + basic car value, or
2) Have an appraiser come out and determine the car's value.

They only take payments up front, no monthly payments. They have many other options for coverage as well, not just racing and not just car damage.

ALSO....there is no conflict or contradiction with your primary insurance if you decide to stick with it and add on the racing only insurance. She assured me there is no "ratting out," and she said she gets this question a lot.

Anyway, I'm going to talk it over with the wife and we are likely to get this done. BTW, the number is 1.877.898.2277 ext 26.

I'm glad I started this thread and I'm glad bickel chimed in with some valuable info.

Perhaps we can save some people's (Randy Moss) when they need it the most...
