Screwing the rims
I just purchased a CCW drag package with screwed in rears. I am probably going to change out the rears for smaller tires. The ones on there are 28"x12.50" MT ET Streets and I want to go with the 26"x11.5" ET's. The rims have been drilled and screws are fitted to the tires on there now. I haven't done this so I would like to hear from anyone who has. Some questions are,
Do I need to screw in the new tires because of the holes in the rims?
Should I screw the tires to the rims?
If I do screw them do they need to be screwed before they are inflated?
Do I need to put some blue locktight or other sealant on the screws if used?
Is this something that can be done after the tires are mounted, balanced, and inflated?
Do I need to use tubes?
Can the tires that are removed be reused? They are about 50% done.
Should I screw the tires to the rims? I would, and did.
If I do screw them do they need to be screwed before they are inflated? After.
Do I need to put some blue locktight or other sealant on the screws if used? I didnt.
Is this something that can be done after the tires are mounted, balanced, and inflated? You might want to wait to get them balanced.
Do I need to use tubes? No.
Can the tires that are removed be reused? They are about 50% done. They should be OK.
Screw the tires, after inflation, before balancing, I used clear RTV (just a dab per hole for POM), no tubes, and the old tires should be able to reuse. If it were ET Streets and you dont normally hook to well, or dont use lower than 18psi, I would probably just bevel the screw holes smooth and not use screws, but thats me. Lower psi, or good hooking will spin the tire on the rims, which can be checked using white mark on tires at the stem point, after a run, check and make sure it aint spinning.
Good luck.
