Talked to ATI again today.. Seems they do a lot of stock elim LS1 cars with 8" verters on the 200 trannies..

They're going to set me up with a 8" super stock converter as they called it.. model # 357 or something.. and it will flash in the 5K range..

Hopefully it works well as I only have a couple shots to hit my # until the fall.

When we put that very converter in another car and it lost 48 rwhp.
Went back to a converter with the same stall speed and picked it back up and the shift extension is actually an extension now.

You should have tried this converter that was in Seans car back when he tried to let you use it.

I'd like to know how this converter works for you...I have used the ATI SS/ converter, I think it was a 5500 stall, w/ a metric 3 speed and it was a beast! I'm thinking about going this route in a project car we are building with Th350 also.

I think you'll be happy Magnus. I run the ATI tranny and 8" converter and I'm happy with them.

I have had great results using ATI products. They stand behind what they sell. Don't be afraid to call them if you have any issues or want the stall adjusted.

8 inch should work just fine for you fine in you case because you have a light combo.9 inch would be the smallest for a heavier car 3500. give me a pm when you ready to rock and roll with that thing and ill hook you up with VHT !!! LOL

For all of you running an 8" converter, how are you launching it for best results?

You are foot breaking right?

Foot breaking I bring the car to the prestage bulb and then bring the car against the converter and let it push me to the stage bulb. If I am leaving late I bump the car up using the break 1 bump at a time untill i get my reaction time where I want it.

I can do either.. I have the brakes to foot it up as high as I like or I can launch off the brake..

Not really sure at this poitn what I will do, I'm just looking for some ideas so I don't have to beat on the car 30 times to find out what works better.. I'd like to have a few main ideas to try and then compare and pick one to better.

Sometimes I can trim a little et by flashing the converter hard but when I do this my ET's are all over the place...My best times and by far more consistant times for foot breaking come from stalling up hard against the converter. It's hard to have a converter that is optimum for both foot break and transbreak. I have had limited success using a stutter box with the T-break in a car that was stalled for footbreaking. For example: went form a 4800 stall to a 5500 stall and cut .2 foot breaking but slowed down a .1 on the T-break, used the stutter box to bring down the rpm at the launch and cut .3 from the et, changed to a 4000 stall and cut .5 off the et on the T-break but slowed .4 footbreaking.
It's all about power curve, shift extension and traction.

Good luck with your new setup!
