Default Help me explain this one to pops

Assume a 2500 lb, 2000 rwhp car with a drivetrain that is basically industructable. Bolt the rear wheels to the ground. Apply throttle giving the massive amount of power to the bolted wheels.

I draw a conclusion that the front of the car would rotate upwards on the axle. If I am in fact right, help me explain this one to my dad.

Lol, not sure why it matters, but if it is in a forward gear, the pinion gear would try to climb up the ring gear, taking the car with it.

(if looking from the drivers side, if the tires are bolted to the ground and can no longer rotate counter clockwise, than the car would try to rotate clockwise around the tire.)

It is like grabing a helicoper by the rotor blades the body would spined. that is why when the tail vertical rotor is damaged or slows down the heli. spins tell the body weight trows it to the ground.

I'm guessing that you are discussing this because of the dyno that bolts up to the rear axles. Yes, the car will wheelie when hooked up on that type of dyno.

Yep, it would be a wheelstand, just like at the races.

that light of a chassis with taht much HP that car is going to near flip over on its back.. You are goign to have some massive metal damage if all that power is unleashed.

To know why the car will flip you need to understand how the rear ring and pinion work. The ring will be stationary since the wheels are bolted to the ground so the pinion will try to rotate and as it rotates it will move the whole damn car up as the pinion rotates around the ring.

i just had a crazy idea for a new theme park ride

have something holding the axles from the ends and have the car high enough so it could rotate 360 degrees without the nose draggin.
talk about get sick in a hurry

I think it can even be explained without understanding how the ring and pinion work. What you're really looking at is the relational (and rotational) motion of the tires compared to the chassis of the car. If the tires are not allowed to move, given sufficient power for the weight, the chassis will move instead with the same relational motion as if the tires were spinning compared to a stationary chassis.

What is his conclusion, I wonder?
