Having read several "which are better" posts for drag radials, I would like to have users of Nitto Drag Radials please post the following information so others can quantify "just how good" Nitto DRs may be. If enough data is provided, I (or someone else) can trend it in Excel and add a graphical representation to all the numbers. Perhaps this could be even become a sticky -- and similar stickies could be made for the BFG and M/T drag radial offerings...

Anyways, here is the information that I would like to see from Nitto DR users:

Best 60 foot time
average 60 foot time
track prep where you ran (good = lots of VHT; bad = test and tune, street tires bringing water up to the line, never heard of VHT, etc.)
tire pressure (psi that seems to work best for you)
trap mph your car ran (104mph = 300hp, 114mph = 400hp, 120+mph = 500hp, etc).
auto or manual transmission
if a manual, did you slip the clutch or dump it
if an auto, did you use a transbrake or have hi-stall converter

With this info, everyone should be able to see how well Nittos work for given combinations if we gather enough data points.

May also want to ask what suspension work is done to the car as that has A LOT to do with traction.

What I am very surprised to see is how low the 60-foot times are for the respondents so far. From reviewing most of the posts about these tires one would think that the Nittos were barely better than a regular radial tire. But the three replies (all automatics) have very good 60-foot times. I have a 6-speed, so it would be great to see some Nitto DR use data from a few manual transmission cars too.

With 60-foot times in the 1.6 to 1.75 range, I would have no qualms about getting the Nittos instead of BFGs. Heck, 1.8s would be great compared to the 2.0 to 2.2s that most regular radials get.

How much of a burn out do you guys do? Drive through the water box or around it?

i had em on my 6 speed for about 2 weeks..... then sold em for ET Streets and have never looked back. they just wouldn't hook!

 

With the skinnies on the car I drive right through the water box, give em a small spin, roll out, and do my burnout. I always do my burnouts out of the bottom of 2nd. Basicly, spinning them at 80-90mph for a good 8-10 seconds depending on how shitty track prep is. Get about 40 passes until the tires hit the wear bars.

I ditched my Nittos even when they were still new. Went to MT DR's.

It's like night and day.

Nittos.... Avg 1.98 to 2.20
MT's...... 1.85 to 1.90

All at Moroso.

18-19 psi in both. M6, Spec 3, 12 Bolt, 413/383.

1.64-1.65 60's all day long. Stock, I mean bone Stock suspension. Bolt-ons only (before the Turbo).

 

I run the 285/35/18 DR's. They are great at the track and handle very well on the street (even in the rain).

Here is a brief summary:

average 60 foot times
Auto cars = 1.7 (5 samples)
6-spd cars = 2.0 (1 sample*)

* -- this sample seems to run 0.20 seconds slower 60ft. with M/T DRs so the Nittos may be off by that amount too.

Average tire pressure = 18 psi (range from 12 to 20)

If others have Nitto data (good or bad) please post it so we can all learn about them. How about some more 6-spd examples? (that walk the clutch out instead of doing 5000 rpm dumps)
