Default A good question for real racers !!

A couple of years ago I purchased a torque arm from a local speed shop. Im not sure what brand it is [maybe edelbrock] but it has a plate that you bolt to the trans tunnel with a built in drive shaft loop. It is alot shorter than the stock one I took off . When I got it and after the install I told a local f-body guru that owns a shop about what I have purchased and he told me that it is junk and never should of bought it. I never really trusted the guy and had a falling out between us .Its still on the car and a have had short times in the the 1.5s. Ive been reading alot of threads about suspension and stuff and am curious if there is a better one out there worth sending more money or should I not worry about it and keep on getting up with what i have ?

IMO The Madman tq arm is the best. I have had a version of his tq arm on my car since it was new with 200 miles on it.

The one you had sounds similar to Alston Chassis's torque arm. I saw one break @ Thunder Shootout 2 years ago, but it was a simple fix (larger bolt and eye on the front link. That car was going 1.3 60's on motor.

Are you looking for a drag-only setup or a something a bit more streetable? For drag, I agree with Coach (satisfied Madman/JBZ customer here too). Otherwise, BMR and Spohn both make really nice torque arms for the tamer setups.

I dont really just drag race my car but its pretty much set up for the track. I have a 8 point roll bar , lca's with sprirical joints on both ends , 12 bolt w/ spool , hal qa1 shocks on all four corners , bmr extreme duty rear sway bar , and other little things that make driving on the street very interesting. Im just wondering if there is more to gain with another torque arm ?
The torque arm on there now has a hole in the end of it for a solid piece to slide up in it then connecting to the plate in the trans tunnel. Is this the one your referring to about breaking at the thunder shootout ?

It's either an Alston, or a Spohn. Either way, it's a good unit. Alot of people like the Madman one too. if you had a pic of it, I'm sure that it could be deterined as to what you have. But, in another light, 1.5 short times aren't so bad that I'd be looking to make a huge gain over that. Could another tq arm work better, of course, but if you are cutting 1.5 60 foot times now.... chances are that you aren't gonna see a huge gain over that either. I'd say that there's a good possibility that changing your tq arm will either make no difference, or possibly hurt you more than help. There's alot of people that would kill for 1.5 short times... myself included.

The end on the slidelink is what broke. Snapped the eye in half. We had to take it down the road to a local's house who welded a larger diameter piece on the end all while telling us stories about alligator hunting in his backyard and his tubbed Monte Carlo.
