Default Burnout - one side????

Went to the track this weekend - with my new line-lock I was getting some good burnouts, lotsa smoke. However, after I looked at my rear wheel-wells, I only had rubber sprayed on the drivers' side - almost none on the passenger side!

is this normal?

Its just signs of a weaker posi. Try to do a regular brake torque without the line lock and see if u leave 2 marks. Cause if its really weak (which i think so since it only spun one kinda hard with the linelock on) it will only spin the one doing a regular brake torque

Sounds like a torsen posi to me. Sometimes mine does the same thing. Take it to a parking lot, come to a stop, turn the wheels all the way to make a tight turn and then give it enough gas to spin (but don't go crazy doing donuts ). Do it a few times and see if sometimes only one wheel spins. I've also noticed it in a straight line, usually when it's wet or I have very little traction for whatever reason. It seems to me it takes a certain amount of resistence to keep it locked in.

If it's a torsen, it's all mechanical and has no clutches. The factory unit in these cars isn't very strong, but if only one wheel spins sometimes it doesn't necesarily mean it's about to go.

thanks guys for the ideas - just reviewed the tape, looks like there is some smoke coming from the passenger side after all - take a look (bonus: Vette kill )

Do you have a Zexel Torsen? If so, that would explain it. They are designed more for road racing, not for doing a stationary burnout at the track. I bought one brand new when I removed the original Borg Warner that was in my '94. The Torsen immediately started doing one-legger burnouts before at least half of my passes. I realized I had installed the wrong type of rear carrier for drag racing and got a line on an Eaton. While I was searching for the Eaton/waiting for it to arrive, I had to have a buddy go up with me each pass and act as a "spotter" to tell me if both tires were spinning or not. Big hassle.
