New Stewart Warner '4 shift' shiftlight
Well I know its only a shiftlight but this thing is pretty cool for a foot brake bracket racer like myself that doesnt use an air/electric shifter. One annoying thing is the 1-2 shift on a normal shiftlight usually has to be set a little lower then the 2-3 since it revs a lot quicker and slow old folks like myself just dont react quick enough So after the 1-2 shift I had to stare at the 500rpm off stock tach in my car to get the 2-3 shift in the right place.
With this you can set a different RPM turn on point for each gear (up to 5 gear changes), it will record peak RPM and reaction time for each shift, trap RPM and also has a stage feature that lets you set an RPM range to make sure you hold the car at the same RPM every time at the line.
Little bit on the pricy side but I was going to do the old trusty monster tach on the dash with a shiftlight, which costs about the same, but I just dont like that big alarm clock look on the dash look these days. You can also land an airplane with the brightest LED setting which is easily dimmed for nightime. Pretty cool little piece for a shiftlight

its a little over 200.00, the 4 shift is more money then the regular 140.00 ultra shift light. Matt at TTP just started selling Stewart Warner stuff, he is a sponsor ------>
sscam68:
When you stage the car you push a button to clear it and set it in the 'stage' mode. You can use a pushbutton or clutch switch with a latching relay like I used. I use the cruse set button and when the brake lights are on I hit the button and the relay latches putting it in stage mode, once I let off the brakes the relay lets go and it sets a timer so if you blow the tires away off the line it wont lite for .1-1 second. After that when you shift it senses the RPM drop and goes into the next 'gear.' Even if you short shift before the light comes on it will still advance to the next gear, you can set up the RPM readout to display the gear it thinks you are in during a run instead of RPM.
With a M6 I would do the latch relay with the clutch switch or just a pushbutton on the shifter or line lock if keep the car from rolling with one, it has to have something hooked up to let it know its staged. On a car with a trans brake it would just be hooked to the brake solenoid. Its not as complicated as it sounds

I may have spoke too soon on this, it seemed to work fine on the street but I couldnt get the '4 shift' thing to work right at all at the track tonight. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldnt (standard shiftlight/staging thing and tach worked fine though), I have a feeling I may not be getting enough RPM drop for it to recognize a gear chance, only drops like 1000 rpm and not for long on the 1-2 shift.
Could be the tach signal is too strong also - I'll have to call SW and see what the deal is..

I played with it a while today and it appears its just not 'catching' the 1-2 shift at the track. It probably has some kind of time/rpm drop delay before it goes to the next gear shift RPM and its not working with a higher stalled auto car. On the street it works OK because I rally cant floor the car so the RPM drops down a lot more. Too bad really, I'll see if SW can tweak it any but its a shame, probably work fine on a tighter stall and a M6 car though.
