Default First run on slicks tomorrow, starter QA1 settings?

Up until tomorrow, I've been running on street tires, and have always found my best launches at 2-2 in front, and 2-3 or 2-4 in back. However, now that I'm running slicks, Should I start that low? I've noticed a few threads with people running 5's and 6's. My car is still 3700 lbs with me in it, lowered 2" (not optimal, I know), lots of aftermarket suspension pieces in back. Currently ~402 rwhp to the wheels N/A with a TCI 3800 TC, 3.73 12 bolt rear, and Bogarts/MT ET Drag 26.0-10.0x15's. Do I change the fronts first, or the backs. When do I adjust up/down? Is there a good writeup on the proper way to narrow down the best setting?

Thanks all

Good links but it is too small to read?
What month and year GMHTP issue was that?
I will look it up.

Thanks

leave your pointer on the pic then you get a option on the lower right hand side, it will go to actual size. You have to do it with these and most other pics, it has to do with cropping of the pic for your size screen

try 2,2 in the fronts
4,4 or 5,5 in the rears

adjust one side at a time so you know what works. gl

I'd start stiff and if you're spinning, start loosening things up, starting with the front.

Try 6-7 in the rear and maybe 4 up front.

Well, I found my best times at 2-2 in front, and 4-6 in the rear.
The night was hot and humid as hell. It didn't drop under 90 until at least 8:30pm and you could see the clouds of humidity coming from the fields, but here's how I did.

60'......1.605
330.....4.915
1/8......7.647
mph.....89.82
1000...10.022
1/4......12.011
mph....113.93

I'd do 1/1 front, and 4/4 back. If the car gets up too much, put the rears at 5/5. I have found recently that I could tighten the shocks up and the car would 60ft the same... So I put it at the tighter setting. In an ideal world, you would tighten the shocks until the car starts to 60ft worse again... I don't like 1/1 front and 4/4 rear, I like the rear shocks tighter than 4/4 I like them around 6/6 if possible.

I have the same setup... I tried 1/1 and 4/5 in because the car seems to be not leaving straight... the drivers side is coming up more than the passenger side...

Is this a good idea? I am also considering an airbag or rear drag swaybar... any thoughts?

Hey thanks, worked great.

After doing that I tried to print it again using the little printer icon at the top left of the picture but it still got cut off. Is there anyway to print it?

Thanks

I pretty much leave my rears on 9, and run the fronts between 5 & 9. Less than 5 and I can't usually keep it off the back bumper. Fastest pass the car has made so far, all four shocks were on 9. I always keep both sides the same. Had the fronts re-valved so they are always "on 9" in compression. Makes the landings smoother if the fronts are loosened up for a slick track.

Your weather sounds like what we are having.

Good luck, Ed

I normally run 6-4 front, 4-6 in the back, lighter in the front and it would unload the rear after the launch.

Are you guys giving shock setting numbers for double adjustable versions (extension & compression), or are you stating different shock settings for left vs right?

Which is the #1 position? Is it all the way left or is it one click to the right.

Mine are old single adjustable. 5-9 is the range where I run mine. Same on both sides. I count clicks clockwise from full-soft. Zero being all the way counter-clockwise. Sorry for the confusion.

I also count all the way soft as zero, so 6=6 clicks up from zero.

I run the front 6-4, mine are 50/50, single adjustable, 6 left front, 4 right front, then I run the rear 4-6. Helps to straighten the car out. I also run 15lbs in a right rear air bag.

Hope this helps!

I just discovered yesterday, that the shock setting on the rear only works well if you have the rear suspension pieces loosened up a bit or have heim(rod ends).
What I'm getting at is I had my rear shocks at 3 and 20 pounds in my bag. After a few video's I noticed the rear was not moving up or down at all, just the front would come up. I was not hooking as good as I could have and other cars were hooking really well, so I know it's not the track.
So I went home and got the wrenchs out and loosened my poly/poly LCA's and Panhard (I had them torqued to 75 ft/lbs as suggested) and voila the rear end moves up and down. On a shock setting of 3 I could barely lift or compress the car prior to doing this. Now it moves.
So loosen things up a bit to make sure the suspension isn't binding things up.
