Many times you hear folks ranting about the Tech requirements at the track and the money for safety items they have to put in their cars. Safety can be you and your car's best friend. I suggest instead of doing the minimum, consider what you can do to protect yourself and your investment.
This past Wed afternoon I installed a fire surpression system in my car (driver's compartment and engine bay). Went to the track that night and needless to say I encountered my very first engine fire as a result of a fuel leak. I've been racing since the mid 80s and never had this Fortunately the system worked awesome and only a few wires were toast. All is back and running well. I've always taken safety seriously and hope this little story may motivate others to do so as well.
There are several types of system on the market. The one I got was a Halon 10 lbs with pull activiation and I set it up with 3 nozzles. I installed my "T-type" pull handle in the center console just to the right back area of the shifter.
Halon is a gas the basically exhausts the oxygen in the area it's sprayed. No oxygen, no fire. Yes you'll have to hold your breath, but I think that a little easier than the alternative.
There are auto activiation units that go off at 150 deg, but that could be a mild summer day here
The system was just over $500. Trending Topics

On the track, you never know.
Any extinguisher is a good idea.
Matt, I almost freaked when I saw it melted some of my 2 step harness wiring. Fortunately it was repairable. First words for that were, "Oh *$%! Harlan's retired!"
You know, now that you mention the harlan two step, think i'm finally gonna put mine in tomorrow so I have it for Sunday and see how much of a diff she makes!!! Hey Matt, how many rpm under full flash on the t-brake would be a good starting point on the 2-step?
