First, check for an engine. If there is one, start it. Then check for a transmission by attempting to put it in gear. If it moves, then drive it.
Seriously though, maybe you should be a bit more specific......
Are you looking for things to do to make it safe as a driver, safe as a race car, faster, what? You basically said "so I bought this car, now what should I do?".

Your right i'm sorry I should have been more specific. Well what i'm asking is, what kind of things should I check for on the car. and do to the car to make it safe as a race car. My goals for the car, I wanna do Heads, Cam and intake. an S-Trim supercharger. pullies, gears ect... But my main consern is the saftely of the car namely as a race car. Thank, Chris.

sounds like you're planning on easy 10s or quicker. Try to figure out what realistic ET and mph you want to run, then figure out a rollbar/cage of choice, and any additional suspension & brake upgrades. Safety equipment to think about would include:
Snell 95 or better helmet
SFI jacket (gloves, pants and neck collar if you plan on a single digit attack)
5-point harness
aftermarket axles
transmission blanket/scattershield
these are a few ideas to look for. If you need specific NHRA requirements PM me as I drag race a little

I'd focus on the front suspension (ball joints, tie rods, steering, etc.). The old cars don't do very well at high speeds unless things have been rebuilt up front. Then I'd upgrade the brakes to discs if you don't have them already. After that work on the drag stuff like cage, harnesses, etc. Good luck! You don't see many old firebirds at the track like you do camaros.
