Default Looking for tips on hooking my 73 camaro.

The car. 73 camaro ,ls1, t56, 200 shot dp nitrous
the car is gutted with a 6 point cage. 3000 pounds
8.5 rear 4:11 gear. aftermarket leaf springs(softer)

Im wondering if anybody has experience making a leaf spring car hook up.What shocks, traction device. slicks did you use
I plan on 4 linking the rear with a 12 bolt this winter, but I want it to hook the few times I get it out yet this year.
Thanks

I'll second the Caltracs. Very nice setup. Also a set of adjustable shocks. You can fit a lot of rubber in a second gen wheel well.

Thanks for the help.
as far as gutting it.. all of the factory wire harness is gone. all interior except headliner and some plastic panels. aluminum race seat. No inner fenders on the front. fiberglass hood. Fuel cell. I lost alot by switching to rack and pinion steering. no powersteering. The ls1 helps alot as well. Thats all I can think of right now.

yep CalTracs. Iv got them on my 68 and saw an incredible improvement. And of course drag springs in front, qa1 makes some sigle adustables, but id say since your goin w/ a 4 link theres no reason to fork over the cash for the qa1.

I'm currently running Competition Engineering shocks (90/10 front, 50/50 rear), Competition Engineering traction bars, Moroso trick springs and Landrum leaf springs on my Nova, and have seen a best of 1.498 60 foot on a 9 inch wide M/T ET Street, but I'm swapping to a set of Cal-tracs next year. They work great, and John is a great guy for support.

Good luck!

Are caltracs better then the comp engineering slide a link bars?
Will the drag springs up front raise or lower the front end? I have the engine set back about 6 inches so there is not much weight over the front springs.

Go with Cal-Tracs and Rancho Shocks. They make a nine way adjustable that is far cheaper then any adjustable shock out there. This is what Cal-Tracs recommended to me and it works great. My car 1.44 60 ft's on a 10.5" slick.

They will be able to cross reference a shock for your car.

This is what i would for your car.
go all out on the front suspension now:
Option 1)Qa1 Coilover conversion
Global West Suspension Components Tubular upper control arms

Option 2)Moroso Drag Springs and some single adjustable socks

For the rear all you need are some Traction bars and depending on how much you want to spend right now (since you'll be spending more later on the 4 link) either:
Option 1)A single (12 way) adjustable sock

Option 2)three-way adjustable shocks

In my opinion, yes the caltracs are better than the slide-a-links. Not bashing slide-a-links as they are a nice step-up from traction bars.

Drag springs will raise the front end up in the beginning, but will settle after 3-4 weeks of driving/racing. They are sold based on front end weight, even with your engine setback you'll be ordering for the actual front end weight and model of car, not just model. I had to cut 1 full coil out of my moroso springs to get the height I wanted, and I have about 5-1/2 inches of travel before the wheels come up.

I will end up with coilovers in the front someday... But dont think I could afford them now with how much im putting in to the car to get it driveable. thanks for your ideas

We run cal-tracs on drag race monoleafs. (You may want to talk to Calvert racing about this also, as they suggested mono leafs to us.) We run Moroso drag springs on the front and also had to cut a coil. This is in a 75 Nova 427 BBC T-400w/brake 4500 stall and 4.56 spool 8.5 10 bolt. It runs 1.46 60's and pulls both front tires a foot up.
I wouldn't waste a dime on 4-link, unless you know someone who can actually set it up correctly for you. The cal-tracs are dead easy and in my opinion better than the slide-a-link (as we have them on a 74 nova)
