I've driven all 3 MANY times.. hell I owned a Duramax 2500 for a few months.. definitly a nice truck I'd take the Duramax over the Ford and the Dodge over all... just my opinion tho.

I'm on Turbo Diesel Registry (TDR).

I don't think some people know how to work a calculator! Another thing, YOU DO NOT GET BETTER MIKLAGE WITH A CHIP!!! More power yes, mileage NFW!! I've driven with a chip for well ver 100,000 miles, I have taken it out a few times for different reasons and have got better mileage. People would tell me all the time when I had my 7.3 about the mileage they were getting. BTW I loved the 7.3L. There's only one way to explain it, they are full of ****!! Mileage will vary a little but not 10 MPG! If I were to buy another truck today it would be a gas engine! Another friend of mine just switched vans exactly the same except diesel. He's only getting 2 mpg better!! IT's not worth it. Andy.

I really have to laugh when I see some people quote fuel milage numbers. I just don't get where they get their numbers from.

2003 Ram 2500 4x4 QC/LB 48RE auto, 3.73's, bone stock w/ AER bed cap.

I purchased the truck used in early 2004 with this truck having 7k miles on it when I got it. Production date is late 2003.

The best milage I ever got was 21 mph (hand calculated, filled to the top of the filler neck every time) being 75% highway milage on a 300 mile round trip topping off once I got home. The truck has NEVER repeated that milage. Most all of my driving is around town and I average right at 16 mpg. Towing a 6000 lbs open car trailer it usually will get mid 14 mph range, again all hand calculated, topped off to the top of the filler neck every time.

Just had the same 300 mile trip last weekend and haven't opped off yet, but looks like it should be in the 18.0 milage range for highway/town mixed about 70/30.

Granted 4x4's get slightly lower milage as do the auto trans trucks, but I just have a hard time seeing so many trucks getting low 20's for milage.

My cousin has a 2004.5 Dodge otherwise identical driveline to mine and he barely gets 14 to 15 mpg around town and gets 10 towing his tag camper trailer (24 to 28' long I believe). His dad has a 2003 again nearly identical equiped to mine...not heard how he did on fuel milage but recently took a month long midwest trip towing a camper trailer. Will find out his milage here soon.

I can see a slight drop in milage in the last year. My guess is the fuel blends have changed with them reducing/removing the sulfer content.

BTW, before the cap installation (supposed to be a tad over 200 lbs), this trucked weighed 7200 lbs with me on board.

My truck... 2005 Ford F-350 4+4 DRW 4.10 gears. 5000 miles. My old 7.3 got 10-12 around town and 15-16 hwy. Both had chips in them.

Remember this is the internet, where everyone has a 9 sec car and a tow rig that get's 30mpg @30,000 lb gross weight.

I've put around 300,000 miles on 3 diesel powered trucks since 1999 and never did any better than the 19.4 mpg the Dodge acheived ONCE.I've never been able to repeat it.
When I start hearing numbers higher than high teen's I start to wonder about their honesty or math skills.

yea, the best we've got out of the truck is high 19mpg and that was at 65mph and getting onto the highway REALLY easy. i think a 2wd 6 speed would pull some really good numbers for fuel on the highway

I have posted the facts that I have found with my personal truck. Take them or leave them.
